Building my own PC, £600 budget.
What I basically need to know is the actual components I will need. E.g. desktop shell, fan, etc, etc
What I want: 6 to 8gb of memory
1TB HDD
1 to 2g ATI gfx card
win7
i7 processor.
Any help/advice?

Greebo on IRC is very expert-level in building computers by hand. You could talk to him?

Re: PC building help
Andy if you are looking for a gaming PC or just one with good performance you can have for a number of years don't go with the Micro ATX motherboard. The cheaper price tag might be appealing but the smaller size also means less ports and sockets. Would be a bummer to want to add hardware later and have no room for it.
If anything make the motherboard the part you spend the most money on.

In, 3 years I will be getting a laptop so I can use it for university for 3, 4 or 5 years and easily lug it around the campus, at that point I will be selling the desktop or just keeping it in my accomodation

Re: PC building help
If you are studying in any computer field you are still going to want a good tower.
Laptops have become far more powerful (also quite heavier lmao) But they still won't compare to a good tower setup.
Though I suppose to each there own.
