Is it
6/(2(1+2)) or (6/2)(1+2) ?

The solutions are quite different.

An apple (6) rolling down (/) a snake (2)'s nose next to a bucket ((..)) filled with a small snake (1) and a bigger snake (2), alongside a bridge (=) to a treasure (X).

Oh you storyteller you!

The answer is one. You work Parentheses first, the, k Multiplication, then division, then addition/subtraction. So, 6/(2*3) or 6/6

I find my answer more cool. :-D Stupid 1, so boring.

Depends on where the parenthesis are applied. See my first post. :P X=1 or X=9

Does it? Parentheses are always applied the same way. You just wrote the same thing but added an extra set of parentheses that did not exist prior to you posting.. :| Essentially, you wrote a new calculation. :P

But seriously.. 1? Boring.

That was the best way I could think of writing the secondary formula. Either the parenthesis are applied to just the 2 or they are applied to 6/2 (which is 3 for those who don't know math); each provides an alternative solution.

My question to the OP remains to ask which was his intended equation.

multiplication and division are supposed to be applied left to right when they are on an equal level,

as are addition and subtraction.

thus:

6/2(1+2)=X
6/2(3)=X
3(3)=X
9=X

X=9

the other way, which is incorrect:
[spoiler2=]6/2(3)=X
6/6=X
1=X

1=X
X=1[/spoiler2]

The way u wrote it first... 3(3) =x
X=9
therefore, I was wrong and the answer is 9. As multiplication and division are equal as u said..

lulz, but it took over 4.5 hours for that conclusion to be determined, proved, and verified. :shock:
and that is if we don't wait for me to show up and agree with you. :(
