I'll be in Florida in August. Just bought the tickets. I'm still looking at hotels and where I wanna stay. Any recommendations ?

Any SGW players that might be there? It'd be the first two weeks of August.

People please... hold your horses. Don't all of you post at once!

Only person I know in Florida is REK down in Miami, might want to send a message to him if you still have his contact info...or maybe to ETL/JT if you don't.

It's florida, vacations there are only between October and April, otherwise it's Florida and too hot and muggy
Suggestions for your hotels depends
If you want to stay in one location, you may find that for a 2-week period you can rent a house or an apartment for a faction of the price. There are a few web sites around that deal in that sort of thing, (400-700$ a week) at a guess range.

People vacation in Florida during the summer, just make sure you are near a beach and you focus on beach things. A cool ocean breeze can help a lot. Otherwise, Florida will kill you haha.

Yeah it's my second time there. Only this time I'll be there in August instead of July haha.

Loved it last time. Would love to meet some SGW players there.

Sorry KJ. No Florida for me. I have a cousin living there... and I used to travel to Clearwater Beach every March, but still recovering from the economy. It's been about 5 years since I was last there. Clearwater Beach is really nice. Pier 60 is right there in the middle of it. They have a night club behind Shephard's with some decent club music... as well as a huge buffet. There's some ski boat and fishing boat rentals scattered around. Frenchy's has 3 decent restaurants to hang out at. There's also tons of places to buy boardshorts. It used to be a lot of hotels there, but it's being gobbled up and converted to condos. We stayed in a condo next to the IHOP in town. The guy owned 3/4 of the top floor, each going for over $1m per unit. Unfortunately, only one of the units really looked like it was worth it. The rest were just prime real estate.

Sweet will do. I'll be staying all over Florida. I'd love some recommendations on what to do there (of course I know about the big parks etc) like some stuff the average tourist doesn't know about.

If you like NASCAR, there's Daytona...can also drive a car onto the beach there.

If you like historical things, St Augustine is the oldest town in the US. That's north-eastern florida and generally out of the way of everything else. There's an old fort there as well as a quaint downtown of shops.

The florida keys, especially key west, are always amazing.
