#-o ](*,) #-o ](*,) #-o ](*,) @ opening post.

RIP one of the main political personalities of XXth century that fought against the evil egalitarian-in-poverty socialism and communism theories.

she was a war criminal herself All irish men rejoice at her death

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams commenting on the death today of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said:

“Margaret Thatcher did great hurt to the Irish and British people during her time as British Prime Minister.

Working class communities were devastated in Britain because of her policies.
Her role in international affairs was equally belligerent whether in support of the Chilean dictator Pinochet, her opposition to sanctions against apartheid South Africa; and her support for the Khmer Rouge.

Here in Ireland her espousal of old draconian militaristic policies prolonged the war and caused great suffering. She embraced censorship, collusion and the killing of citizens by covert operations, including the targeting of solicitors like Pat Finucane, alongside more open military operations and refused to recognise the rights of citizens to vote for parties of their choice.

Her failed efforts to criminalise the republican struggle and the political prisoners is part of her legacy.

It should be noted that in complete contradiction of her public posturing, she authorised a back channel of communications with the Sinn Féin leadership but failed to act on the logic of this.

Unfortunately she was faced with weak Irish governments who failed to oppose her securocrat agenda or to enlist international support in defence of citizens in the north.

Margaret Thatcher will be especially remembered for her shameful role during the epic hunger strikes of 1980 and 81.

indeed not only irishmen rejoice europeans too and britains themselves

she made bad decisions and good decisions as a political leader, but now is not the time for that. Now we respect her life, celebrate her achievments and let her rest in peace.

I'm from the north where her leadership had a huge detrimental effect on life, yet I show more respect than you still. Grow up CC

So did your precious Republican Army, sir. Should you burn in hell as well? Guilt by association clearly seems reason enough for you? :)

I am sorry, did you just equate Margaret Thatcher to Adolf Hitler?

I do have a lot of Irish friends, as a matter of fact, from a few other loci on the net. Most are from Cork, and so far, all of them have had the decency to respect the memory of the Iron Lady, though they make the same connotation in general; she has made some poor decisions in situations that were - for the most part - out of her control. While I sympathise with the 19th-20th century rebellion/war of independence of the Irish, I did read that the civilian losses on the British side have been greater in number than on the Irish side. Not to mention the senseless murdering of British citizens in Northern Ireland. Both sides have misbehaved, but such is war. The Irish chose covert war/terrorism over a diplomatic solution, and the British have let themselves be provoked. There is no one without blame in that conflict.

But since you are the Irishman, I will let you tell your side of history, if you wish? Admittedly my education has been focused more on Britain than on Ireland, so I may be basing my perspective on 'faulty data'. Far be it from me to dictate history; I can be as wrong as anyone..

fem fatale wrote:the repressed will always rejoice at the death of an oppressor..
Everyone with a strong will of their own is an oppressor to those without.
Oppression itself is not a bad thing, it is the natural consequence of those with a strong will interacting with those with a weak will. Letting yourself be oppressed, on the other hand, is a major crime against humanity, and a degrading, sub-human attitude.
The average man has taken no part in creating moral codes and laws, yet he obeys them with dog-like submissiveness. He is trained to obedience, like oxen are broken to the yoke of their masters, domesticated formerly-wild things. The average man is a born thrall taught from childhood to be governed by others. Greatness is breaking free and seizing your opportunities. Napoleon, Genghis Khan, Caesar, Xerxes.. great men, who seized the opportunity provided by the lethargy of their otherwise more excellent foes.

So yes. The repressed may celebrate at the death of their oppressor. But at the end of the day, unless they were the ones to kill their oppressor, they are still slaves to their own domesticated attitudes. Celebrate for a day. The whip will be back tomorrow, with more force.

I believe any death should be respected, whether it be Hitler or the Pope, or Lance Armstorng if you want the worst thing in existence.

P.S. The Lance Armstong thing is just jest

P.S.S. It really isn't, His missing nut has more evil and hatred of happiness than all of Satans Demons
