hi all, as a passion of mine I like to make music videos and now that I have a custom built pc and unlimited credit I can upload them WAY more often and thus is why I wanted to get my youtube channel off the ground and also start making gaming shorts but something has hindard my music video creating ablilties and that is the mkv file format or container. it is not compatible with my video editors (sony vegas and after effects) can any one help by providing me with the name of a program they know works? and if so let me know if it can do them in batches, I have had some luck but 95% of the time they don't work out and I would like to get the train moveing :D

for simplicity nero will do it

I use it to mkv movies to mpeg only way windows 8 allows you to stream straight to tv unless feeding through a tablet

there will prob be more efficient programs tho you will be able to loa dall your files into it

MKV is a container. Like a zip files, it has store video and audio in it. You can extract files from MKV and then edit them.

get MKVtoolnix http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtool...
then MKVextractGUI from http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MKVExtrac...

After that copy MKVextractGUi files into MKVtoolnix folder, then run MKV extractGUI from the flder, select your MKV file. In a box it will show what the file contains such as video audio or subtitles.

Select what you want, and hit extract. If the video you extracted is in AVI or MPEG, you can edit them in SV. If it's h264 or something that SV won't understand, get a converter accordingly.

If all's done, you can put the edited files and back in MKV with MKVtoolnix if you want.
