METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER PICTURES AND WARNER BROS. PICTURES PARTNER WITH ROLAND EMMERICH AND DEAN DEVLIN FOR “STARGATE” TRILOGY

Los Angeles, CA (May 29, 2014) – Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures, together with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, are partnering to launch a new feature film trilogy that reimagines the 1994 film Stargate. The announcement was made today by Gary Barber, MGM’s Chairman and CEO. Emmerich, who directed and co-wrote the original film with Devlin, is confirmed to direct and Devlin will produce.
Barber said, “We couldn’t be more excited to once again partner with Roland and Dean, the world-class creators of the original Stargate, to bring their reinvigorated vision of this wildly popular property to audiences of multiple generations.” He added, “Stargate is one of the biggest titles in MGM's vast library, and we look forward to adding this great franchise to our slate."
“The Stargate universe is one that we missed terribly, and we cannot wait to get going on imagining new adventures and situations for the trilogy. This story is very close to our hearts, and getting the chance to revisit this world is in many ways like a long lost child that has found its way back home,” said Emmerich and Devlin.
MGM will be running production on Stargate, with Jonathan G

Just hit season 10 of SG-1 and season 3 of Atlantis.

Hopefully the first will be out by the time I finish with SGU :-D

SGU doesn't deserve to have 'stargate' in it's name....

Go up to your room and wash your mouth out!

SGU Season 1 was ok, if bit slow at times, SGU Season 2 was fantastic!

Whichever studio exec decided to cancel the show on a cliffhanger, then cancel the TV Movie for both SGA and SGU will forever be on my Khan list!

couldnt have put it better myself.
IMO stargate hit its peak about S2-S4 SGA
Closely followed by later seasons of SG1, the ones with the dude and chick out of farscape in them.

It took a bold step into some new in the Stargate universe, people did not like it because it wasn't constant pow pow.

Indeed. Season one was tough at times, but it did lay the groundwork for season two quite well. I think the show demonstrated considerable potential and it was clearly shown the second half of season two. Sadly, it wasn't generating the numbers they wanted so it was canceled. So a trilogy of stargate movies eh? I wonder what time frame they will choose to pursue. Perhaps the Ancients and there struggles would be something worth while?

They are complete reboots going all the way back to the original movie. Kiss the Stargate you know and love goodbye because the **Filtered** directing the new movies absolutely hated the show. The show went in a very different direction than he wanted to take the original trilogy. Yes, the original movie was intended to be a trilogy, but was made into a TV series instead.

The second film was to feature the Goa'uld attacking Earth Independence Day style.
