Awards 2014

Hello!

It's coming to the season and my mind is starting to drift towards awards.

The next two years are going to be big years for the SGW awards. Firstly 2015 is the 10 year birthday of the game and secondly 2016 will be 10 years of the awards.

As such I am putting this thread here for any suggestions in regards to the awards categories, rules and the likes (DON'T start on about the no alliance voting thing, it wont change).

Add me to the fall of fame. I'm not usually one for self-aggrandisement, but some of the people there at the moment were complete losers. Loony bipolar Teal'auc, Tweetygirl the jezebel and WTH even remembers who Genlucky was nowadays. If those idiots are up there, I really do think I should be considered.

Maybe add a requirement for multiple people to be nominated for a category before its eligible for awarding. Newcomer of the year last year was automatically won by a single nomination.

bit hard when there are seldom any real newcomers, that's why I prefer most improved or something akin to that.
In the past former players such as Spartan/JockPrincess, Hope/Vix, Andy/Bromas tried to pass themselves of as new players.
It's also a little unfair on people that try it out for a month or two, quit then come back a year or so later but are then not elligable as they "played" before. I'm thinking of BSPC here, first played in 09-10, but didn't do much until he came back in 2012.

I can neither confirm nor deny that. ;)

Regarding the 'newcomer' debate, which has tediously surfaced every year since that category was implemented, I have always favoured allowing people to be as a stupid as they want. For better or worse, the recipients of awards are decided by the people. If people are thick enough to decide that ETL is the newcomer of the year, or fem fatale is the forum poster of the year, then let them.
