It's alright.

I've been eaten up by r/l responsibilities (Management Consultacy and various fictional creative pursuits are strikingly busy pass-times). I have had to push the awards back a week and have asked Support to alter the topic. I am putting a bit of time in today to get the necessary threads put together.

Q:
should those known to have scammed, cheated, scripted or multied be stripped of any award ever given?

ie like drug cheats are in sports?

There's a difference between known and factually confirmed as far as cheating, scripting and multi playing goes. If someone has been formally confirmed to have done some of the following and it has an impact on thier award (IE someone who has several multies being considered for best player of the year) then yes, they would be disqualified in that regard, however they may still be eligible for villain of the year or even epic moment of the year.

Scamming is nebulous but in general I wouldn't consider it more than an aggressive, dishonest form of usual play and so it would not be eligible for disqualification.

It seems a shame that nobody is likely to be nominated to the Hall of Fame this year, although I'm not sure how the requirements could be watered down further without it becoming a situation where anybody can nominate their mother, their dog and clowns. However, it might be worth discussing for next time.

I hear ya, there are a few still in DDE that have been playing for 10 years not in the hall that probably should be.

I believe changing it further would only make having it even more of an arbitrary thing unless we began adding criteria for nominations such as 'must have achieved rank 1 whilst at war, must have been a forum GM or admin, must have been the founder of an in-game empire or 'significant' alliance', must have ascended to unknown without buying an unknown account, must have collected some other accolade (Supreme System Lord, Ombudsman, Hero, Villain of the year), must have won an ascended tournament. They have to have done at least three of those but if they spend $$ they get -1, if they've cheated they get -1.

If someone is average enough they'll get the votes. The game is lacking enough in actual legends these days that it's never been easier to make enough of an impact to get in; it's been like that for about 2/3 years now. Spend a bit of money, mass enough people to get attention and in you'll go.

Take Odin this year, judging by what people are posting all he did was uproot a few cheaters, re-form an alliance, stick around and send a few strong worded PM's. That used to be standard, very normal and quite common diplomatic play back in the day, nothing remarkable - Clarkey did all that, was forum admin and top ascended ranker amongst other things to get into HoF. IMO the HoF was creeping on the path to going downhill in 2011, scraping the barrel with minor exceptions in 2012 and has been laughable since.

I don't think there's anything wrong with no one getting in as that's a minor step to preserving it.

Edit: I take it back. 2013 had HE so wasn't laughable at all.

Nobody wants to be the kind of **Filtered** who demands why he isn't in the Hall of Fame, but the truth is that I've done more than a few of the people who are inexplicably there.

However, I still don't think I deserve to be there because here are numerous people who have achieved a great deal more than me but still aren't there. All the more proof, I suppose, that it's an imperfect metric.

i remember the impact you've had... ingame and on the forum over the years...
but what lately?
anyone whos been playing for 4 or less years probably would be thinking "whos this self indulgent douche?"
not because you are, but because the impact youve had in the latter years is next to nothing.

fact is HoF nomenees get their name thrown in based on their impact over the last 6-12 months before awards, where once you were a common name your now a ghost.

also - like Semper said, pre2012, it was a serious competition, where most players still here who should be in there that are not were at their most active, and in direct competition with actual other deserving players.
over the years, as their activity level has dropped, so has their social status as legends, gods and/or kings... fading away.

I would like to think that I did more then that lol. I have done a lot since starting back in September 2006 I just don't jump up and down and make sure its all noticed. Not saying your comment is mean or has any ill intentions just felt like I had to say that. My 2014-2015 years were spent rebuilding an entire alliance from scratch, bringing back 15-20 members that still remain active ingame. Create one of the most active diplomatic alliances since SGW's hay day as well as train some noobs and organize some wars etc.

To be nominated by ones peers for HoF even if this game isn't as active as it once used to be is still something amazing and honoring and I thank everyone that has nominated me and said such nice things, when I read through the posts it really made my day ^_^.

Yes. Most do.

lol. Back then you didn't necessarily have to make it noticed, it would be noticed because of the impact it had ergo my point that it's easier now because things have become quieter.

You remade an alliance for a bunch of people who i'm guessing didn't want to/couldn't play competitively (which is pretty much 99% of the available alliances as I am lead to believe and so they were not at least without a broad choice ;) ) and then spent your time either borderline desperately begging not to be embroiled in the usual malaise inducing prolonged fighting and the other half of the time ephemeral noob training or organising play dates? Oh, and you hunted down some cheaters. You spent two years babysitting? (Disclaimer: I'm writing based off almost no knowledge of the games last two years. You could have had many competitive players for all I know)

And, wait. A diplomatic alliance? You mean an alliance of sissys? Or an alliance of people who like to chat? An alliance of people who are fair and measured in their approach? A group of players who don't have the $$ or massive amounts of time to play competitively so have to talk their way out of every situation? What exactly is a diplomatic alliance? What makes it something special? It's current rarity? Why is that something of note exactly? Most alliances are diplomatic if they find a peer or something to pity...

And organising wars? WTH? Who organises them? Villains orchastrate them, heroes finish them or fall in them. You may have arranged a training skirmish if that's what you mean? Again, this was once quite a standard, every day practise.

It's all very by the book, day by day and unremarkable. You could argue that it's remarkable now because no one is doing it, but personally I would say it's just human psychology. Recency effect at its best and reduced frequency does not correlate with increased worthiness for prestige.

Well these days even a turd can shine in empty space if enough idiots throw glitter on it and even a pebble can make a large ripple in the puddle left by an ocean.
