if this question exists, i'm sorry for reposting it but i couldn't find it using the search button. (just in case someone would try calling me noob or anything in that direction.)
wanted to know if there is any combat multiplier when defending.
What i mean is that my def is at about 1,8 bil. but i never do more than 1,5 and rarely 1,6.
Is there a random factor like throwing dice in determining how much % of your optimal dmg you do?

I believe it all depends on weapon strength, meaning if your weapons are damaged, you wont get optimal strength, but im not completely sure if anything else factors in >_>

You will never do 'maximum strength' when fighting.
Usualy you will notice the missing power when you lose...
Say I have 1.7bill and lose I might only do 1.3 But if I win, i might see 1.6
This affects your offense as well so dont worry.

i get what you mean, but i think that is a bit BS. I mean, how can you determine if you won or lost if this is determined by how much dmg you did, which would, the way you have explained, be determined by whether you won or lost.
kind of catch 22, don't you think?
and tenkari, I know that during that attack my weapons were at full strength so it cannot be just b/c they were damaged.
and then one question arises.
why can someone defeat my armies if he/she did less dmg than my defending army? Is it just the way the code was made or is that some kind of unintetional rubbish from the programmers side.

What do you mean? You must have a higher damage to win.
There is a random factor which is enhanced by whether you win or lose, be it attacking or defending.
Let me be a bit more clear in my example:
Say I have 1.7 bil and am attacked by someone with 1.7bill
A bit of randomness is tossed in... lets say it makes mine 1.69
Those numbers are compared, I lose, and end up doing 1.3bill damage while taking maybe 1.5
On the flip side, it might have made me do 1.72 and the opponent 1.67 and I would win.
<selfedit>
Hmm... lookng back, if I understand your question correctly:
The random factor is so small as to almost rule out the possiblity of someone extremly weaker than you winning. In other words, as long as you have 100mill or so more, you will almost certaintly win. (affected by M/S and stuff).
Now, if your forces are extrmely matched in power, the battle might swing one way or the other.
Keep in mind that all this is based on my experiance, and not actual knowledge of the game coding.

I think I get now what you said.
Although it hadn't included the information what i expected I think I somehow figured it out now by myself.
Thank you.
