Ok, I bought some attack and defense mercs to cut down on my troop losses. The enemy should blow through these before cutting into my army right? (raiders and guards)
I'm all about troubleshoot first ask questions later but I'd rather not waste naq to experiment. so the question truly is this:
Should I have bought untrained mercinaries unstead?? If a percent of my mercs are lost in battle/defense unstead off all B4 the real soldiers, then whats the point in having untrained mercs?? If this is the case what percent??? How is that decided?

i think the way it is played is so that the mercs go forward whilst your actual soldiers stay back because mercs are expendable.
however i think if you have alot of mercs your merc casualties will be high.

I know all of this. My raiders and guards are dying regardless! Do untrained mercs actually do the dying is what I ask! BC I am still having troop casualties and the attack mercs and defense mercs are rarely taking the hits! Should I change them out for untrained mercs?? Is this how this strategy is really played???

From what Ive noticed, its a percentage thing.
If you have 10% attack mercs, 10% attack troops, and 80% untrained troops, 10% of your looses go to the mercs, 10% to the attack troops, and the rest go to the untrained troops.
That is just a basic example.
I believe this is fairly accurate to how it works. Havent actually calculated it, but its just from casual observations...

if you're an attacker, buy only attacker mercs!!! they do not generate income, thus, they are expendable. you should have the same amount of mercs as attack weapons. keep your troops untrained to sit safely and avoid casualties, or train them as defenders to avoid dying on your attacks.

After reading though this (and this is my first post here), can you train "untraiend mercinaries" as spies? I dont like having to lower my Naq. production by training hundreds of spies, so I was wondering if this was another option, to train the untrained mercinaries into spy mercinaries.
If not, they should have the option of purchasing "spy mercinaries" for around 4,000 to 5,000 Naquadah, so people dont "over purchase" them.

1. you can't train untrained mercs
2. when someone is earning at least 150k a day, 5k each spy isn't much...

Your point?

You figure you want a spy force of 2,000 troops, that'd cut my income around 40,000 per turn, not to mention the 7 million to train them.
But, if I was to just "purchase" them, that is 10 million in costs. So, short term it will cost more yes, but long term, you save a lot.

Lesson one 40K is nothing
Lesson two I think you just started out a few weeks perhaps? Upgrade your unit production before buying such an amount of spies..

that's not true. i have ~600 attack mercs and ~300 general drones. when i attack and suffer casualties, ONLY ATTACK MERCS die. general drones remain. checked a few times - general drones never die unless you give them weapons.
