Attacking the Attackers

I'll admit I haven't been playing very long but I had a thought I figured I'd share. Attack forces never go up against attack forces in this game. This seems a little odd to me as it would be good (to my way of thinking) for people to have the option to take their enemies attack armies (rather than his defense army) on directly.

Here's how it could work. When you go to attack a player you also have the option of 'challenging' him which would basically mean instead of attacking his defense troops you attack his attack troops with your own. The reward here would come in the form of attack turns. For every one of your opponents soldiers you killed you would get one of their ATs so obviously attacking people with small armies or no ATs would be fruitless. Also any troops you lost would be subtracted from the tally of enemy troops you killed (so if you killed 400 but lost 100 of your own you would take 300 ATs).

This is just an idea I've been bouncing around so feel free to make suggestions (maybe it's too powerful?)

I once had a similar idea...

The difference is our idea of attack turns...

ooh boy... I'm not sure I like that part. Besides, 1 attack turn per killed soldier? Once you get into the upper ranks, you start losing (what, 4k soldiers per attack? I wouldn't know, I'm not one of them) alot more guys. Besides, in my mind the idea of "attack turns" is basically how fast your troops are... turns are like the whole idea behind how a single army couldn't attack 30k people in one day. How would winning this challenge give you more time to attack people?

what about instead of taking his turns you could either generate glory points or just take his G points, like 25 kills > 1 G point

haven't we already seen something like this? attacking for naq involves who can break eachother's defense first?

er - no - what makes you think a players atatcking force are located on his own planet? They are more likely to be off-world ATTACKING someone else - hence the need for a dedicated defence force.

but you should still be able to attack it. (perhaps a MS needed, if he has a MS else his att is on planet.)

That gives me an idea. An attack that would face the enemy attack force and in doing so do damage to the MS/destroy few turns. (the attacker is given no bonus other than that.)

Yes I suppose you could argue that attack forces don't sit at peoples bases, I just like the idea of people being able to have heavily armed attack forces go directly against one another, maybe in some sort of neutral environment like a battle arena or something with something to win and something to loose, have to come up with a way of making it fair so the big boys don't just dominate though

The main problem is that most of the older players would probably see this as a step backward. In the early days it was possible to destroy strike troops by attacking (and UU too for that matter) - hence it was possible (and did happen) to completely destroy a player, except for his/her spy level and covert agents.

Yes, but I do not get the bad side of this.
W now have miners(untuchable?) and B i think it is allmost inposible to destroy all of his defence forces. (some serius grudge is needet to spend so many turns.)

It is certainly not impossible to destroy somebody's defence - in fact all it takes is a few good men. :-D

sine you loose a % of your forces (with or without weapons) it would take you waaaaaay too many turns to destroy at 40k defence armada even if they hadn't any weapons.

Well obviously you haven't done that sort of thing very much - I have - and have been on the receiving end - and it is easily possible. Recently a few players destroyed a 6 billion defence in about 5 minutes - a while back a few EPA members destroyed the top 6 defences of another alliance and crippled their attacks- but 5 minutes after we finished, we had all rebuilt our stats. It is all a mtter of knowing how to do it - and it isn't simply a matter of just massing using attack turns.

I know of one group who are thinking of taking out a 14 billion defence - they reckon it'll take about 20-30 minutes before it's gone.

Yes you could destroy all his weapons, and say 50% of his troops, any more is a waste of time, money and mind. IMHO

What my point is, there is no way do damaige enemy attack forces directly.(other than provoking the bugger and loosing a lot in return.)

exactly my point.
massing away weps isn't too hard.
but you cannot eradicate a defending army effectively. just lower the numbers and remove weapons. after some time you'd be killing 10 soldiers in 1 attack (out of maybe 1500-2000) pretty pointless it seems at some advanced stage.
