To elaborate on what the King said just doing a keyword search for a general term would not be good. Try to use
all of the options avaliable to you.
For example, wanting to know about spy upgrades and entering "spy" into the keyword field without changing anything else would give you everything that had the wory "spy" in it. It would contain everything from the general forum to the spam section. So, in fact, the search works as it is supposed to.
Don't forget about the asterik symbol, *, it can be used in the keyword search if you have something you're looking for but it may be represented in multiple ways. For example, wanting to find info on technology upgrades. It could be described by a player as 'technology', or 'tech' on the forum so seaching using either of those two choices would probably not provide you with the same results as using 'tec*'.
The 'and' and 'or' function can be used when you are looking for:
and.... two terms that exist together in the post; cookies and milk
or...... one or the other term, but not both together; cookies or milk
If you know that I had made a post about Guinness and want to find it again you can have Guinness in the keyword field, and Spacey in the author field, which shoulr give the post to you(if it still exists).
The forum drop down menu is also important to use. It can help you narrow down your search to selected forums. It would probably be easier to understand some thing if searching in the Newbie/FAQ forum before going to another thread where discussions about said topic can become complicated, and may become difficult to learn about something before first know what it is and does. Plus, it would help weed out posts that contain information that you can't use, which could just have the term in conversation between players.
Hope this helps, and is all I can get into now(have to get ready for a meeting with some other students), but a deeper description of using and preforming a search could be given....maybe I'll work on that, a help guide for using the search function? To learn best about it is to mess around with and and see what you get; learning through doing.
