Defending

It's like this - if you are defending I belive all yuor troops should be affected - not just your defenders.

Your defenders should, obviously, be your first line of defence - once they are destroyed, your offensive troops should become defenders (but with reduced defensive strength) and then, when they are wiped out, your untrained should become defenders.

This would add more realism!! After all - if your base is being attacked, do you really think your offensive teams and untrained troops would sit back and break out the cigars??

I do sort of agree. There needs to be a way to hurt untrained units of players (i.e. raid or something just to kill them) Nothing is more anoying than someone attacking you who has nothing to lose by attacking them back. This suggestion would really help guard against that.

hmm, it should stay the way it is now, attacking troops are called ATTACKING TROOP ( they attack if u didnt notice... ) and not defend.... and for untraineds... they should be save becuz they give u the income :P , my opinion,im happy with the way as it is now so it should stay this way :P

Ah but see, in war if one is attacked and their defenders die, the people who are helpin' the enemy cause are killed. So in SGW terms, once the defense fails should the untrained be hurt?

Its like this:

Attacking troops are in space surrounding the planet, waiting to be called on to go out and attack.
Defending troops are surrounding the stargate, protecting it from any enemies.
Untrained troops are either in space with the attackers, doing various tasks, or in distant villages or whatever, no where near the gate or danger.

When you are attacked, the only ones nearby to attack are those defending the gate. Attackers are up in space, and untrained are scattered around.

Now when mother ships are made, perhaps those may kill all units, but currently, no...

Motherships should be both attack and defense then. Attacking, they go annihialte the target, defending they orbital strike around the 'gate.

Anyone read Enemy Lines 1: Rebel Dream? When Lusankya commences orbital bombardment around the Biotics Facitliy?

Arrrgghh!! You missed the point!! The point is, if you are attacked, half of your troops do not sit back and let the attackers crack on do they!? And the enmey don't think, "okay, that's all the defenders gone now, lets just leave the attackers and untrained to do their thing!."

i don't agree - there is nothing in the game to say that defenders are defending the gate (defending the base - yes!)- for what purpose since the gate has no use in the game - you said yourself that attackers are in outer space.

Secondly - sacttered around in villages - what is this? Middle Earth??

It seems logical to me that the order of defence should be:

Defenders
Untrained
Attackers (last so at least you can retaliate)
Once all of these are gone, then weapons start to become damaged more quickly.

It would add a lot to the game and ensure a more strategic approach.

lonewolfs wouldn't benefit from such a change cos alliances are going to target ppl.

I agree, what if someone got attacked by a load of people at once!!! they'd destroy him/her.

Attackers are bought to attack - defenders to defend!!
Otherwise you would just have an army that attacked and defended as 1 force, with 1 set of weapons!

At the end of the day if it was like the real stargate the tauri could send in 4 nid (top men) and kill loads of gould and come back unhurt and gould would always lose!!!
Lets not get caught up in this "yeah but in........" nonsence

End of.

Bad idea, i think.

When you attack people, you are raiding them for naquadah. You are not hunting down untrained people who are down in the mines, or attack forces who are in orbit or on a different planet. The attack simply targets the naquadah 'storage' and has to fend off the defenders to do so (the defenders themselves are never wiped out as well).

lol  Villages, cities, orbital stations, whatever, thats not the point :p

Im just saying, the purpose of attacking is NOT to kill as many units as possible. It is to steal naquidah.

If your troops are attacking, and they broke through the defenses, they are not going to stop and say "there are still enemies around. Lets kill them all." They are going to grab whatever naquidah they can and leave as quickly as possible. The defenders are what are guarding that naq. The attackers are off being prepped for attacking someone else or whatever, and the untrainedes are mining naq or something. Those two groups are too busy doing their jobs to take over the defenders jobs (lol I love how Im personalizing sata in a computer)

This is why I think war should give you no naq, but kill all types of enemy units. That would make sense. The way attacks work currently, what you suggested does not make sense

I'am goauld in the show the jaffa live in little commuinites and i've never seen a scribe or a mining jaffa pick up a staff and start shotting at Sg-1 it's not practical when when system lord beats another he takes his jaffa doesn't slaughter them .
