Experience and soldier classes

Right now, in the normal soldier class there's only 1 type. This 1 type can use any weapon. Instead of this, there could be multiple experience ranks. You have your rookies (apprentices), freshly recruited. They can only use the first 4 weapon types (hand device, zat, staff, portable energy cannon). After some combat experience they become full-fledged Jaffa, able to use deathgliders. Next level is the Jaffa master, who can lead a full jaffa division.
There's a maximum percentage of your units that can advance to jaffa masters, say 1 master per 10 jaffa. The final class is the first prime, who is allowed to operate a gateweapon. Again, a maximum percentage of your jaffa masters can advance to first prime.
I know, it sounds strange, and unfeasible in the current reality. But wouldn't it be more realistic? And it forces people to use the lower level weapons as well, or have a lot of unarmed units. As it is now, it's just a race of who can buy the most gateweapons or equivalent.
Some suggestions for other races ranks
Sergeant, captain, major, colonel.
Rusty spider, spider, Fly, Queen.
Fresh clone, conscious clone, commander, fleet commander.
To determine when units advance, you get experience points after each battle, depending on the result. The points are used to advance one or more units as positions become available. Experience will be another reason to keep battling, to make your army as powerful as possible.
To complement this change, covert will have to be made more difficult. Spies also need to come in different sizes, and no longer as infinitely powerful as they are now. Right now, with people on covert level 17, 18, or 19, each spy is capable of destroying 50-200 top level weapons, not to mention the lower levels. As people need to stock up on low level weapons, it should be a little more costly to destroy them. Higher level spies should be more expensive.
Example:
Army consists of
10 apprentices 10 Portable energy cannons @40 - 400
60 Jaffa 60 Death Gliders @160 - 9600
6 Jaffa Masters 6 Full Jaffa divisions @640 - 3840
1 First prime 1 Targeted gate weapon @2560 - 2560
77 units total - 16400
Battle report
Your troops inflict 16000 damage on the enemy!
The enemy sustains 10 casualties!
Enemy 's forces attack and inflict 8000 damage on your army!
Casualties:
2 apprentices
1 Jaffa
As the army of enemy runs from the battlefield you examine the collected spoils:
You stole 3,652,662 Naquadah from enemy !
Your troops gained 30 experience.
8 of your 8 apprentices have been promoted to Jaffa
You return to camp, your troops elated from your glorious victory.
Something like that, but the numbers will need tuning over time. Don't tell me this can't be done in the current reality, I know that. I wrote this idea for a different reality, maybe ascension, maybe a future quantum reality, who knows.
