How do you know if your fleets are powerful enough to conquer a planet?

You need to be able to spy the planet. If the defense is higher than your fleet power then you can't win.

but if your fleet is close enuff to planetary defences, u can mass it until u steal it

you can see your fleet strength in the mothership screen
