Ascending with officers

Ok I have ascended a few times now, and i always have my officers find a temporary CO and I ascend with no officers...but some of my officers dont like having to leave far a day or two and so they leave for good.

Can I keep my officers when i ascend or do they automatically get dropped?

Anyone know? Thanks for the help

They automatically get droped.
