Mothership advice?

I'm at the stage where I can probably afford a mothership, but it would take me quite a while to deck it out with all the guns/shields/furry dice, the usual

. The question is, is it worth it yet?
Currently I'm simply attacking 0 def people, my strike action is fairly pitiful, but my defensive action is more than 25 time higher, plus I have fairly high anti-covert for my rank, so I'm a pretty uninviting target. I rarely leave a lot of naq and uu lying around, so I've never been attacked. Oh yeah, plus I'm an Asgard, and tech'ed out to the max.
I know motherships can't be destroyed, and I know motherships raise rank alot. However, what gives me the boost? Is it the fact I just have a mothership(i.e, do I get a rank boost even if I don't buy any shields/weapons etc)? Or is it all the upgrades that give me the boost?
What I'm afraid of is, I buy a mothership and put some stuff on it, and that raises my rank alot so I'm in with the big boys. Then I just get pounded by people with either better motherships or much higher strike action. I'm handling myself nicely where I am, but the temptation of a mothership is difficult to avoid. However, having the extra defensive firepower(which doesn't appear on spy reports), is very appealing.
Just to give you an idea of numbers, I'm getting about 2k UU a day, and my highest rank (def) is approaching the half bill mark. Am I too weak for a mothership yet?

Dont buy a mothership yet, keep attacking the 0 def's and raise your UP....i mean raise it big time....then buy a mothership, power is nothing without people....Plus you dont need rank right now...if your looking for rank do it all or nothing....Just buy lots of UP and work yourself up slowly until you can comfortably afford a mohtership...As you need to repair them after attacking people as well...so yeah, not worth it if your UP is only 2k...raise that.

Thanks, as much as I want a mothership I kinda knew I was too weak yet for one. Since I'm new I've no real idea about this kind of thing (This is only my 6th day playing

).
It's getting pretty expensive for me to raise UP more. I guess for you guys this is small change heh

I agree with buck, you'll want that UP up much further before you get your Mothership.
It's extremely expensive to maintain in terms of replacing weapons, and you'll need to have a fair amount in Turn-income to be able to support one.
(This is only my 6th day playing ).
Lol, I think it was about two months before I got my first Mothership... and then it was as a gift from my commander... Heh, the growth-curve is so much faster these days.

Hmm.....what's a nice UP figure to aim for? 5k? 10k? Higher?
A friend of mine has around a 5.5k UP and has a big mothership, but I was doing a quick calculation and I'd probably be better waiting a bit longer than that. Plus I have a whole lot of Anti-Covert I want to work on first..............

I'm lucky enough to have a great Commander. Plus, I've played a few of these MMORPG's, and I'm a vet of Planetarion. Before I started I read the help menu, forums, got advice for friends that play, looked at the stats and things, THEN finally I started playing. Now that I'm on my feet a bit I'm looking at 2 things.
1. Motherships
2. Alliances
Hence the post here. With the whole GA disbanding thing going on right now I'm kinda stuck for alliances (my Commander is currently involved in the whole saga, so I don't really want to disturb him too much right now).

UP i'd say anywhere from 6-20K would be average...
I'd shoot for 10K, nice number.
Plus I have a whole lot of Anti-Covert I want to work on first..............
Just curious, but why are you working on Anti-Covert? Planning on massing someone or...?

It's kinda part of my plan to be as uninviting a target as possible. I want as few people to see my naq and army size as possible, cuts down on potential attackers.
I don't know about you guys, but I don't look at targets that I can't see.

Ah... I see...
You may want to check up on the game-updates
game-update wrote:Anti Covert Units & Tech. These units work like army units, but are trained like covert. When they engage an enemy, they break off from the main assult (taking damage as they do) and hunt the enemy covert. At this point, it is their anti-covert skills versus the defending covert skills. If there is absolutely no defence units in the realm, the attacking army may help them out. Initially, since people have high covert, and low anti-covert, they chance of them doing serious damage is minimal.
It's a common mistake, but Anti-Covert contributes nothing to hiding your realm. They only kill enemy spies when you attack someone, and thus, are a low priority for newer players.

Doh!
Hmm........so how do you hide your planet from other people?

You want to train covert to make it harder to spy on you (and also lets you spy ouit those 0 def targets nicely).
Wait on the MS. Grow for the time being. I'd say shoot for at least 5k UP. If you plan on ascending you probably won't want it too high, but if you aren't going to ascend then raising your UP is never a bad choice.
Alliances are kind of a catch-22 situation. Yes, they can bring you some stability from random farmers, but unless you are in one of the top alliances many people will still farm you (I routinely use alliance lists to scout targets). Most of the upper tier alliance have strict requirements and can be difficult to get into unless you know a lot of members. Additionally, alliances can get you dragged into conflicts as easily as they can pull you out of them. My suggestion, shoot for a respectable army size and fly under the radar for the time being. If you've got a good CO, they will help protect you from random hits.

Yeah, I stupidly used a hotmail address for my first account (QuistixXx), and the spam filter stopped the activation email from getting to me.
I can't log into that account because I don't have the password. I only play on the other one (i.e QuistixXXx).
Plus, because I can't log in I can't delete it
