raymond e feist is the best fantasy writer in my opinion. have you read them all gumbi?

should start with 'the magacian' by raymond e feist and then theres like another 25 books in the series. i cant even put how great the series is in words so i will sum it up with this:

'swords of night and day'

any ian irvine

barely fantasy but still: 'the dark tower' series by stephen king

Dante's Inferno (Translated, of course)
Belgariad and Mallorean (Not the best of series, but alright)
Redemption of Athalus (Stand-alone - not great, but alright)
Elenium and Tamuli (Same as Belgariad and Mallorean)
Chronicles of Narnia
Deltora (More of a children's series - haven't read in a long time)
Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever (Very interesting - they start off in the modern world, but shift rapidly to a fantasy world. Compelling read)
The books by Terry Brooks (The Shannara series)
The Hobbit
A Song of Ice and Fire (Very well written series, but the author seems to kill off his main characters with ease - sign of a good writer).

A Song of Ice and Fire (Very well written series, but the author seems to kill off his main characters with ease - sign of a good writer)..

I'm a huge ASoIaF fan. George R.R. Martin is a vastly underrated writer, in my opinion. I rate him right up there with Tolkien and the greats.

I also like;

H. P. Lovecraft - Cthulhu Mythos
Mervyn Peake - Gormenghast
J. R. R. Tolkien - The Lord of the Rings
Stephen King - The Dark Tower
Raymond E. Feist - The Empire Trilogy

I'm an on and off "Wheel of Time" fan. I sometimes feel the last few books have been sub par, and that Jordan has begun to lose the plot slightly. We should make allowances for the fact he's been ill though, I suppose.

Weelllll...my fave fantasy is that I'm in a movie cinema......oops, wait. Books? Didn't see that bit.

Apart from what has been mentioned...A Plague of Angels by Sheri S. Tepper is a good one. And my fave of all time is Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin. And for young adults (hey......I know at least one 12 year old haunts these forums) is Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising series.

What's so lol worthy about the Cthulhu books? They're a good read!
