I believe that they do nothing, not even add to your unit count.

The stickies in this forum have a lot of useful info. Like this:

http://herebegames.com/StarGateWars/vie ... php?t=1792

Q: What are untrained mercs for?
A: Untrained mercs serve no purpose other than to increase your overall army size. They cannot be trained into attack or defence mercs.

:-)

they do absolutely NOTHING.

If they`re so damned useless, why are they for sale? I say get rid of 'em.

Pog will sell useless Mercs.

Perhaps you can buy a buttload of them, and keep them hanging around as emergency funds? So they arent worth much, but in times of frantic repairs you know you have a bit of extra naq to fall back on. Just a rather inefficient way of having extra "bankspace" I suppose.

why would you wanna do that, when you can only have a certain percentage of mercs per trained army?

to have enough untrained mercs to give you enough naq to be worth it, you'd not be able to buy any other mercs.

or. the untrained mercs you had wouldn't get you much naq.

seriously. It would take over a million of them to get you 10 bill naq.

and 10 bill naq doesn't go that far, nowadays.

UM dont count towards the merc limit, and i think forum replied to a similar thread a while back lightly hinting at a potential future use of them, so I dont think that idea is completely unfounded.

remember that the goauld have the race tech where they can actually get some from battle. So I don't think they will be leaving anytime soon as that would make the goauld be at a disadvantage unless it was recoded.

Untrained mercs are a cost-efficient way to boost your ascended power points (APP) when you want to ascend. The conversion ratio is better for untrained mercs than for naq so mercs can actually end up being cheaper than other methods of increasing APP.

I'd post the formula and show how they are a good value for APP but I don't think that is allowed outside of the ascended forums.

APP, ask the question in ascended forums and you'll get an answer... if you're ascended :) Other than that its the bane of all questions... questions about ascention  *gasp* Did I just say that?

Basicly, you get a very small amount of APP for them, so if they are there, you mayswell nab them.
