what are mercenaries good for

what do they do and why can i never buy any in the mercanary marketplace and how do i train an untrained mercanary into an attaking or defending one. also can i take an untrrained or any kind of trained merccanary into battle with me.

untrained are not worth anything they are worthless
attack merc. act just like attack units and carry weapons the same goes for defense merc.
Try to buy them right when the turn changes. Merc. are good because they die instead of your other units.

yup, def/atk make excellent shields to protect supers

r mercs. good for anything other than filling body bags. do tey like help u in battle as much as a super or are they in between regs. and supers.

Mercs provide the same power as a standard drone (non-super). Mercs (and drones) are generally the first to get killed off to a proportionately smaller number of supers. They are useful as a replacement for somewhat more expensive UU.
Untrained mercs don't seem to have any benefit at this time other than providing additional ascended power points (APP) if/when you choose to ascend your account. More information on that subject would have to be attained once you had your 1001 G&R points and could look at your ascention calculator.
