Food for thoughts

It is no secret that many players are frustrated with this game and the community. We are now experiencing a new wave of players leaving the game for good… old school players, new players, great players, honored players and hated players…

Now people never hesitate to blame Forum for releasing new updates they don’t like or not adding updates they would like to see. It surely is the easiest way to just say: the game isn’t as much fun as it used to be because the game admin doesn’t do his job right. But IMHO that is wrong. The game admin doesn’t have any influence on how people decide to play the game or what role they play in the community. The community with all its alliances and super-alliances is what it is because of us – the players of this game.

Now before I go on, let me add this little disclaimer, so I have something to quote once the flame war starts:

I am a proud member of Dirty Dozen and am 100% loyal to my alliance. I am in Dirty Dozen for Dirty Dozen and not for the CoP. My loyalty to my alliance is committing me to accept, respect and honour the CoP pact. That being said, I hope it is clear that I would never do anything nor support any actions against the CoP. But that doesn’t keep me from criticizing the influence the CoP has on this community.

I have spoken to quite a few people about the reasons for their frustration, CoP members as well as non CoP members. Many of them made very similar statements.

Quite a few CoP members think it is sad and boring that there is no challenge anymore as no non CoP alliance is strong enough to mess with CoP. But they also know that leaving their CoP alliance is not a solution because as soon as they leave they make themselves a potential target. So all there is left to do is to build up an even bigger army and either sell or waste resources on random massings.

Non CoP members are frustrated because they realize the CoP is overpowered and they have no chance to ever catch up and they know if they mess with one CoP alliance they will have to fear the wrath of all… smaller alliances have to be afraid to get completely destroyed if only one of their members is messing with CoP…

So to make it short, the imbalance the CoP brings to the game causes frustration on both sides. CoP is splitting the game into 2 groups: there is only CoP and non-Cop. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying disband the CoP or anything. But I am saying the CoP alliances are some great alliances who totally deserve being where they are and when you look at their total power you wonder if they really need each other. Maybe a NAP instead of the CoP pact between the CoP alliances would be enough.

I am well aware that I won't change anything with my post (well except that I will have some more enemies ;) ) but I am posting it anyway to make at least some of you think about the following questions:

- When have you last seen a fair war between 2 equally strong alliances?
- What chance is there any alliance will ever give CoP a hard time?
- What are we without our enemies?
- What goal is left when you have an army of 100 million + ?
- How do new players feel and what motivation do they have to play the game?
- Who will quit next?
- How many people are just hiding in the CoP for protection?
- Are you a stat builder or a warrior?
- Does this game have a future?

One last word to the CoP leaders: I have great respect for you and you are true leaders. You can be proud of your great team work and of what you have created. But please don't forget about the rest of this community ;) I think power brings responsibility with it as only powerful players can change this game.

Now I will sit back and wait to see who will mass me for having an opinion ;)

Very good read. I have exacly the same opinion as you, but I am on the other side of that line to you. I am not CoP, so I feel the effects slightly more...

I have no idea why two great alliances such as Omega and Dirty Dozen feel they need to stay together for protection.

Surey they and their sister alliances are powerful enough to manage on their own?

im reminded of spiderman when reading this.

"with great power comes great responsibility"

but yeah i agree, many people feel they cannot get anywhere with the super power that is CoP... they obviously do not need to stay together for protection, but, it obviously ensures their survival. It would be nice to see the balance change if the top alliance did dissolve their treaty. But i don't mind either way. I guess i havent made up my mind. I feel if you stay out their way they stay out of yours.

1- When have you last seen a fair war between 2 equally strong alliances?
2- What chance is there any alliance will ever give CoP a hard time?
3- What are we without our enemies?
4- What goal is left when you have an army of 100 million + ?
5- How do new players feel and what motivation do they have to play the game?
6- Who will quit next?
7- How many people are just hiding in the CoP for protection?
8- Are you a stat builder or a warrior?
9- Does this game have a future?

1) Well depends on how do you look at that thing...but if I am right on how you look on it I would have to say in the beginning of my SGW carier TA -omega

2) Depends on the rest of the community as the CoPs...in a way they want to have a hard time (warfare) otherwise one of the main purposes CoPs were built was letting the member"states" of the CoP have an easy life...to sell resources if needed to talk with their friends...to enjoy the game to warfare once in a while "knowing" you will be winning etc
AND P.S. ASK DD WERE THEY INVITED IN ANOTHER COALITION BEFORE THEY JOINED TRINITY...AS THEY WERE...ONLY WEEKS OR SO BEFORE THEY DID...

3)You have lots of enemies...mostly you create them all (if someone isnt that in this moment he becomes in the future..not all but quite some...that "matter" in this game)

4)Lots of Goals it is really up to a certain individual and his style of playing: For some helping his friends/ for some continuing your own growth/ to sell for $/ to have a blast and to warfare/ to make bonds etc etc (all that is then possible once you have achieved it)

5)Again depends on the newer players as their conections that got them in sgw...some just want to play/ others to become equally strong etc etc (watch answer on the 4th question)

6)All those that dont have fun playing this game anymore...those are MOSTLY the ppl who find themselves figuring out that their goal in SGW is "to difficult" for them to achieve (mind the " ") but there are other who cannot play as the RL has taken over (in the past many have left in the presence many speak of leaving only few do...but remember their spot is filled with others...their character is lost for ever)

7)Well I ll make a guess ...but before I do let us define hiding (hiding isnt only being in cops for protection...also being there as you know no matter what war etc...you ll probably be the one who will win and those have the chance to rebuild...also hiding would mean being there to get strong connections for your own good...also hiding would mean being there to enjoy peaceful life (earning real $ ) or just to peacefully stat build etc)
So in those terms my guess would be more then 50% of the CoPs but it is only IMHO.

8 ) Depends..I define that on a different scale then others...Will say it like this:
Igitur qui desiderat pacem, praeparet bellum." ( if you want peace prepare for war)...you be the judge of my thoughts

9) Not only that the game has a future but that future is created by US the community...every individual can make a change...believe that and you wont think of quitting...and you will have a goal...

what we need in the game is random events, not to mention a new goal objective.

The problem you have is that the game is no longer about stargate as everyone rushed off to ascend and to become an ascended race to get full stat benefits etc.

now back in the old days it was great to have 'RACE' wars and it added alot more fun to the game, now its all about who can get the biggest army and make the most money from the game..

when there is nothing left to achieve what is the point in playing?? yes you have two big alliances then attached to them their newer sister alliances, problem is there is no one left to attack as they have all looked to join the great alliances and worked on their stats to get there - but where do they go then ?????

I have to make this 100% clear

A group is only great when they are willing to step aside.. Irregardless of how powerful someone is that does not make them great, if they "command" a few dozen people that has no real consequence on anyone else who does not play this game..

A challenge by an enemy who is unwilling to leave anyone grow to over power them is not a challenge! To be fought completely you need a worthy adversary

I am also not saying to disband CoP however I will say this if I could take it all back I would have most likely not joined the game! As unbeatable powers like CoP and of course the old GA make this game unenjoyable.. Its only when you are at the otherside of the fence you truely realise this

Yes we do need more options in playing this game

Geisha, i totally agree.

I have stronly believed for some time now that the only ones who can destroy the CoP are the CoP themselves.

ummm is it time to quote my disclaimer already? I never said anything about destroying CoP... Heaven forbid!
