I have watched almost no anime. This morning I was waiting on Star Trek to come on and Yu Gi Oh was on, I watched that for a few minutes, it was ok for the first animation I have watched in awhile.
Any recommendations on something better than Yu Gi Oh?

if you'd like a serious(deadly serious) anime. Crest of the Stars and it's sequals, Banner of the Stars / Banner of the Stars 2(sopposedly 3 was coming out, but i've heard nothing of it since then.)
Martian Successor Nadesico is mostly space, but also has some romantic/comedy elements.
also, most of the gundam series have had space as a major theme during sometime of their series.
thats pretty much most of what i can think of that i've seen.

cowboy Bebop, yes it's an anime. but only a couple of episodes feature space, it's mostly about bounty hunters, and a set of 4 of them, that "work together".
but mentioning it, you reminded me of another anime.
Outlaw Star. which was fun to watch IMO.

Hajime no ippo (a little hard to find but worth it) and it your looking for a good anime that you'll be able to see +10 episodes a day for about a month before catching up to where it is now I would recommend one piece, the first few are a little childish but it gets better as it goes on.
