You lose your race bonuses and get a new bonus.
base race = 25% to one stat
Ascended = 5% per ascention(to the 6th) to atk/def/cov/income and 1% for every ascension beyond the 6th.

you have all the best stats of the entire game non ascnedned races into one account and then some
30% covert
30% atatck
30% money making
30% defence

And just to help you out further
Ascending once - prior - 5% in all
twice - prophet - 10% in all
thrice - messiah - 15% in all
fourth - incarnate - 20% in all
fifth - living god - 25% in all
sixth - living god (your in game name stays the same) - 30% in all.
Ascending more times will give you a further 1% bonus in all four each time you ascend. You cant ascend more than 10 times.

Also, once past a Prior, you can purchase the special technology called the ascended blessing. It occasionally will make you deal double damage in strike/defense.

ascended blessing comes into effect at prophet, i know, i have it now, and i only just got to prophet.
