question for foum admin, absolutely no spam please

i just asked jenny to delete a topic made by a spam bot that contained nothing but links to porn sites, on top of that there was eve a poll as to what you prefer!
question for forum admin is this, i have noticed a few topics created by spam bots in the past couple months, how the hell is this happening to OUR forum?

Same as what happened to the TM-forums: someone comes and watches, monitors how much people there are, registers when necessary and starts writing an posting script. That way that bot will keep on spamming. Only thing to do about it is better prevention (i.e.: make the admins judge whether someone is allowed entrance to the forums or not)

The admins are aware of this for some time, and im sure they working on the issue... there are some ideas regarding it...

Firstly, this should be in "Other"
Admins don't control or send spam bots to us, they simply try to stop them as much as possible, because this site is so popular now, we are bound to attract their attention.

Seems to be I got misinterprented. I meant: at registering, you could build in that admins have to decide whether or not an account is activated. Thereby maybe preventing potential spammers.

i was just wondering since i havn't seen anything posted about it!
but meh, probably just me not looking hard enough.
anyways good to know that its being looked into, and probably would be best if applications to sign to the forum were scrutinized by forum admins 1st

We are hopeing that the next version of PHPBB will have some sort of anti spam bot thing....until then we try and keep on top of them....they come about twice a day, most of the time we manage to delete them before anyone/many people see them...

The forum did have an anti-bot program on it - which appears to have stopped working (or at least became less effective).
The Forum Admins have discussed the situation, and it is likely (for the short term at least) that Admin activation of acounts will be implemented (in the very near future) to combat this.

the only problem with that is if you refuse an acctual person access.

if someone is refused access, there is likely to be a good reason... like that he/she has an account already that has been banned...
