A Public Service Announcement

Dear friends and fellow players,
We are today faced with the prospect of a malignant growth taking over our once happy forums. The cancer of malcontent and decrepit behavior.
It has manifested itself in many forms but the most recent and prominent, and the one I’d like to biopsy and hopefully remove concerns the recent market section changes and the torrent of abuse that Nuto has had to take.

If I were you I would simply rejoice that there have been some visible signs of an active moderator, a rarity of late.
Firstly you, the community whom the forums serve, complained that the Mods weren’t doing enough and the Admin staff agreed. So the Admins, who ultimately control what happens on the forums, did a Mod reshuffle which put a few noses out of join but alas did little to improve the situation. Some Mods went so far as to resign from their positions while a few soldiered on.
One of the most active, widely known and loved Mods was even denied Admin status due to outside interference. Even though his credentials were impeccable, making him perfect for the job, he was looked over. Again.

Now as some have pointed out here and at the bastardised Market Forum, Nuto’s amendments have been major which has led those of you who are seemingly incapable of stringing together a plausible argument to plead your case to take the low path and make a move on her account. Is that how pathetic we have become?
If we can’t articulate, we destroy?
I had hoped that the distance between our apex and nadir was much larger. What a vain man I am.
At least RobinInDaHood steals on principle, now we see people proudly announcing how dubious their character is as if actively seeking adoration and approval for their actions.
I blame the parents.

As a bit of supportive evidence, you should vaguely remember Psi being massed due to his apparently overzealous enforcement of the ‘No Signatures or Avatars of a Suggestive Sexual Nature’ rule. For those of you still scratching your heads, in essence the lovely Ms Alba got Psi massed, and he was just following a Forum Rule.
Naturally in all cases where an/a Admin’s/Mod’s account is attacked due to them doing their jobs, Forum refunds the damages. Some people just can’t distinguish between a personal attack on the forums and a Mod doing the job that we put them into power to do.

Forum is still Nuto’s Mod-Superior, as are the other Admin staff and the market changes were discussed within this exalted little group as well as Nuto’s peers, the other Mods.
If the Admins and other Mods didn’t allow the changes to happen they simply wouldn’t have taken place. Yet now when people have begun to moan these Mods decide to spring into action and turn on one of their own and use her as a scapegoat. Very reminiscent of a Jewish lad quite a few years back that you may have heard of.
People in power should be above mob mentality and they should also be virtuous enough not to take advantage of one and use it for their own purposes. This is thrice that I have witnessed the pack tear into a solitary member, and twice has it involved people I care about.

To put it bluntly though, you should direct your ill will at those who only recently changed their tune on this topic.
Where was their apparent steadfast defiance when the changes were first proposed? Why is it that only now they spring into action? Were they on vacation?
Or are they more concerned with their public image that their Modship comes second?

But on a more constructive note, if you’d like to change the market structure, sit down, do up a rough draft and develop a valid argument for why you believe your format should be used. This forum does belong to us, as was pointed out. And the Mods aren’t the unfeeling stone gargoyles that the rumour mill makes them out to be.
And any two year old can *modded* and moan about a problem when things done go their way, adults actively try to find a solution and move on.
Which category do you fall into?

Now concerning time, I know Nuto works long hours. From midday till midnight most days, sometime longer and it’s a labour intensive job. By rights the only thing you should expect of her when she arrives home at night is for her to head straight to bed, however she does not. Nuto drags herself online to perform her Mod duties and other miscellaneous tasks. To be fair Modding isn’t the only thing she does of a night but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t occupy a decent amount of her time which, according to Phil and Steve, should be spent sleeping.
Alas recently during this period of time she is quite often bombarded with PMs of a vulgar and sick nature.
To quote one of the more colourful ones:
“I bet you take it up the arse.”
As you can tell, that one was probably from one of the creative minds behind the latest season of Big Brother. An insult of that level is often associated with drunken lads at a pub, under no circumstances should a woman ever have to be on the receiving end of that. I was brought up to respect the fairer sex. One can only wonder what kind of household fostered that.
Needless to say, it’s not the welcome home message any of us would look forward to and in spite of all that crap and long hours she still wakes up in time for breakfast and fits her real life family and friends into the morning hours before she has to head off to work and again and let the process repeat itself.

A portion of the people reading this will be workers, myself included, and can thus empathise. While on my University holidays I get up at 6am six days a week and depending on my work roster, I work 9-15 hours a day and often get home at around 11pm. At which point I make myself dinner, clean up and let the dog out to do his business and hop online to catch up with the day’s events, chat and whatever else needs to be done.
In the end I usually get to bed at about 2-3am, if I decided to sleep that night, and as per Nuto, repeat come 6am.
I’ve seen what I look like of a morning and I remember all to well how I feel and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone but to support myself I need the money. And I’m not the worst example of the bane that is work. There are many others in similar or worse situations. So before open your mouth and start spitting, think for a second about the day the person on the receiving end of your slander has had.

But worry not for us, rather direct your concern towards those who can seemingly manage to maintain an online presence all day.
What pray tell do these people do for a living?
I apologise to those of you who have legitimate reasons for the copious amounts of time you spend online, such as your job. But the rest of you, get a *modded* life. Does the mere thought of human interaction repulse you so much? Perhaps your new forum rank should be Andy **Filtered**?
I tell you what, I’m sure you’re aware of the proposed SGW get-togethers that are in the works. Do yourself a favour and attend and see how the other half lives.
If for some reason you can’t attend, grab your mates and go out for the night and enjoy the company of others. I’m sure your Supers will forgive you. Lads, if you have a better half take her out and make the most of the night. Ladies, if your lad hasn’t done so already this week give him a swift kick in the pills to remind him.
For those of you who mindlessly ramble on about,
‘It’s only a game. There’s a reason there’s a W in SGW. You take it too seriously.’
stop being so damn hypocritical. If you feel you need to justify your actions then you obviously care about it more then you’ll admit.
Perhaps Forum can put everyone on PPT for Valentines and instead of sitting there watching and waiting for people to come off, spend the time constructively doing what I suggested above.

So Ladies and Gents, how we proceed from here is up to you. We can all focus on having a positive outlook and work towards a better set of forums or we can remain as we are, bitter and resentful.
And while Nuto has been the poster child for this particular piece of social commentary she is hardly the sole case. The behaviour on the forums of late has been shocking, for want of a better word. People need to separate themselves from their ingame personas and try and get along with one another. Sure you can mass someone, but do it for the right reasons.

Regards,
The Hater of the Pallet

Anyone have a summary?

Deity

Incredibly well put, the fact that this sort of behavious occurs in game is shocking and apauling. The minority casting this sort of abuse should be laid bare and exposed to the community as nobody deserves to be verbally abused and treated without respect. At the end of the day SGW is about friendships and community and those who wish to stain and tarnish those who just wish to play and serve the community should be ashamed and cast aside. I can only imagine how difficult it is to moderate the forums however those who do so have my respect and I'm sure that others will agree to.

I wouldn't go that far, it's probably more like: If we are not allowed to articulate.... since in this special case people were banned from even discussing anything about it on these forums.

And no, I never attacked a mod for anything he did on the forums and I'm not planning to.

i'm going to throw my 2 cents...i feel like this post is somehow directed at me and many others...so here is my response...

I don't care what other people do with there lives(RL or ingame) and working how hard in life it isn't going to change anything on forums you say...honestly are people going to care about your feelings?...hell no...i don't think what the forums thinks of me is going to effect my relations in RL...yes i do have a life and how i run my life is none of your business...

If Nuto wants to make a sacrifice of coming to the forums and modding here and there will thats her sacrifice...i have other things to worry about instead of what the forums is doing to the mods...if people want a bash mods in game because of them owning them on the forums...fine ill say let them, it doesn't effect me if somebody want to mass a mod, most players i believe mind there own business ie account now when some1 else's business and your business collides will we all knows what happens.

As for the Forum belonging to "us" not once did i ever get the feeling or even had the thought of this forum belong to us...after you said that maybe thats were most of our "bad behavior" comes form who knows...

Define massing for the right reasons? what is right in this game? whats maybe right for some may not be for others...and my playing style fits this cause i never knew who's going to come and mass me or even why they did it in the first place. When this entire game is built on theft, greed, hating, corruption...etc anything can happen im sorry but to do some "good" prepare to do evil...lots of it too

If you want to come in the forums and spill your heart on the forums just don't expect miracles to happen cause i ain't seeing any of them any time soon. Look in that WoW funeral video, i bet those attackers knew what happened did they thought about the people of the receiving end of a slaughter has had? i guesses not...

This reminds me of what policemen have to do ya we don't like them when they give us a speeding ticket, among others too...they providing a duty yet there put there lives on the line for people who don't like them? they know the risks...mods should also no too...i don't know how big of a clue do you need to realize that you are modding a war game...

Here Here :)

I still stand by my idea those of us active should walk out for a day and see what happens :-D

And it is true, your all giveing nuto a hard time, why? Because you "dont like her" because she "annoys" you....Well...Im afraid i have some news for you....all...You see, she has Your best interests at heart, those rules are not there to Anger you, annoy you or anything else, they are there to help you, they are there to help us, We , that is all of us, only have your best interests at heart :)

As for the mod that was overlooked a few times for a promotion well, i recall him being the only active mod on the forum for about 2 months last year..., i think this sums up my feelings....

But if the people at the top dont want actual help...well, who are we to complain :-D

As for anyone not likeing mods because they tell you off, just grow the hell up.

Buck.

First off, I bow to the eloquence and thoughtfulness The Deity put into his words, truly a masterpiece in the Divine line. :D I salute you.

Second, to those who refrain from reading through it, because of its apparent length: You're reading this, aren't you? Go and read that. Or have it read to you if you're otherwise incapable to let the full range of words sink in.

I myself have witnessed this maligny you describe. My attemptto relieve the stress was inferior to yours in many ways. All I say is that it takes less of an attention span. :P ;)

Appreciation of the one can be translated as appreciation of those who are less appreciated then they deserve. I would start appreciation threads for the Mysterious Shaitan, the Quick and Adept Reality, the Timeless Psi, the Able Forum, the Merry Sixfooted Sleipnir, the Incomprehensible Buck, the All-seeing Bad Wolf, the Returned Flavar, the Secret Hyuuga Hinata, the Abysstraveler Nathrezim, the Gracious Rienna, the Ferocious Teal'auc, the Chatty Homer1475, the Binary Whiteydude, the Decisive Baszy, the Wise Acronon, the Impeccable Daff, the Well-known Agapooka, the Old AncientAnubis, the Digitised Dadigi, the Multiple Zeratul, the Numeric R3B3L, the Cuddly Supersquish, the Strict Nuto Vixen, the Dreamy Geisha, the Artistic Lord Neqa'el, the Dominating REK, the Respectful Spacey, the True CrimsonFrost, the Alien The Xeno, the Changed Freespirit, the Short brothercrit, the "Soon-To-Be-More-Because" I Replicate, the Revolutionary Jean Gregoire Gabriel and the Almighty SSG EnterTheLion and everyone else who has a function on this forum, yes, even for those who seem to believe that a displayed lack of respect is something to be proud of. I don't want to be huggy and all, but everyone deserves the respect they give, to be given back similarly.

The Market changes. It is the nature of a Market. Change is not without resistance, naturally. It is the nature of things to flow according to that which receives the least resistance. Fortunately, and yes, I said fortunately, Nuto doesn't. Where the least resistance would mean 'unleashed', descending into full chaos and major irritations, Nuto changes things, keeps the Market running, and prevents legal issues to ensue from scamming deals etcetera.

Blaming the parents. Indeed, for it is by example that we learn.
Vanity will make us all look like fools I fear, Deity.
Violence has always been the resort of the lazy and the unintellectual. Those who uphold an even half-developed view of the world know that violence is pitiful, albeit a powerful tool when applied strategically. A little pressure here and there gets things done easier.

"You achieve more with a kind word and a gun, then with just a kind word."
Or with just a gun. But firing that gun kills the person you were talking to, and gets you either nowhere, or in jail.

I'm in complete agreement with your advice to "Get a *modded* life."
I like my life to be unmodded, of course, but to those who seem to think their face can be saved by brute verbal violence and insane, sick and twisted comments I say: "Get your life Modded." Because you need a moderator if this is what you have become. :)

Best regards,

I agree.

This thread is getting longer and longer, and so are the posts :?

Anyway, I do think something needs to be done about our forums, and we are the ones who must do it.

Lol nice speeches and all. But Deity if you and Nuto are so busy and still go on the internet to play a game, then you need to get some sort of professional help because I would say you are clearly well on the way to getting addicted to computers if you arent allready. People who forsake sleep to *Mod* or play a game have some serious social issues. How long do you reckon before you stop washing, showering, caring for your personal hygiene to post on the forum instead do you reckon?

I agree mods need to be respected because they are only following the rules but dude... I find all that sympathy garbage you spat out about working all day then coming back to mod for us...lol..that is just sad. If you dont have reasonable time to play/post then a simple thing to do is to NOT BOTHER!!

Jeeze...whats wrong with you people....
