What exactly does the Beacon do?

I bought the beacon for one of my planets (which was stolen. it is still in transit does the beacon just tell me where it is? or does it make say my mother ship auto lock on it and send it back to me (obviously having to fight the defences on it)? Because if all it does is tell me where it is THAT IS POINTLESS. The attack log already does that. thus making it a waste of 1 bil. please let me know if it's more useful then just a ping to it's where abouts.

its not pointless, it can tell u where your planet is when activated. why its good- incase a planet is stolen and abandoned-> u know where to find it, or its stolen by a person who has it stolen off of them-formely untraceable, not any more. doesnt give anything else aside from location-> no def stats
