Windows. Definitely. basic office functions i'd prefer Linux for its stability, however I do play games, and thanks to the lack of compatability (and my absolute hatred for apple) Windows has become my only option. Besides, windows is widely used, and I couldnt spare the money to change from it even if I wanted to.

For me to buy mac, I'll actually have to buy software... <<
>>

linux is stable...but only because not many viruses are targeting it... and if you do manage to kill your linux, you're not very well off...
and it isn't very compatable with manythings...

mac is expensive... and it's expensive and all it's good for is music and media... but all that is expensive... and anti-viruses are not all that there...

windows is what I use... I'm getting a new laptop with vista~

I cant believe what I'm reading, Linux is one of the most compatible OS's if you know what your doing & its possible to get almost any win based software to work on it if your willing to try.

I have to agree. Sure, you may need to put away some money for VMWare, but toher then that, you can have many, many programes, for FREE! The learning curve might me a tad longer, but that is no reason one might not try. We are only too lazy to try. If I hadn't been raised up by Windows, I would be using Linux right now (and it's a big no, no, that not too many game developers are porting their games too Linux).

For those who said mac- its a linux baed kernel - so yeah you did just pay a huge amount of money for something almost identical in coding architecture as many many freeware alternatives. Windows for me- it just works most of the time and when it doesn't I knwo it well enough to fix it.

I use windows. I've never used linux and probably never will. I don't see the point in Mac's. You can't really do anything fun with them (ie. play (good) games)

I have to say I voted for both tho, been as my pc dual boots between openSuSe & XP atm. Mind thats becasue somethings mainly some of the more advanced modelling/programming tools only seem to be released for windows platforms like 3DS Max & .Net Studio.

No, Mac OS X is not Linux based, its UNIX based.

And I've yet to see why Mac's are better for media and such... All the editing software can be put on a Windows PC. As for the stuff on the mac, if you want the high quality software you have to buy it, so the point is worthless.

Different OS for different uses huh..

I commonly use WinXp Home Ed. because it fits what I need it to do (writing, image edition, watching movies and using Guitar Pro).
