Shielding officers

A possibly crap idea, but how about giving the commader the ability to shield his/her officer for a brief period of time.
the officer temporarily gets a shield, or blanket around him/her like an asgard ship (the commander) extending shields, etc.
this effect would be very brief, and limited.
i have just come online and suddenly that idea hit me when i was doing something for an officer...

i was thinking that idea a while back but then forgot about it

I'm not sure if I like this idea but how do you propose this happens? What is the cost for the commander (for I think there should be one)? How protected is the officer? Can a commander protect more than one officer?
My thoughts on the matter would be that it should work like the realm alert and officer income settings. The commander loses some (a drop-down % setting) of his defence, and the officer gains that - although it does not show in the stats, only works invisibly like the realm alert.
Again I do not think this is a good idea yet.

if you work on the covert idea i mentioned, it could work just like the income % drop down list whereby a certain proportion of the commanders CA can be split among his officers?

i was thinking along the lines of the officer getting a defense boost.
the Commander loses this temorarily.
E.g.
Commander: 400mill defense
Officer: 5mill defense.
Commander Offers 25% bonus...
Commander: 300mill defense
Officer: 105mill defense
% is free to be determined.
this effect lasts a short period of time... 5mins - 1hr??
and can only happen to one officer at a time, and there are limits to the amount of times this cn be done a day. e.g. 3.
but prodigys suggestion is interesting too.

i thought about the defence one myself chris but i didnt think it would make sense for a few "role playing" reasons if that can be applied.
For example id think a spy network would be a more "realistic" suggestion for a commander to be able to help his officers with than say a defence fortification.
im probably not making sense but it just seemed to work better the covert way

i like the idea of donateing some of your defence to them..it makes sense and isnt unrealistic...in turn though i would say the officers and commanders income go down considerably.

At least the commanders Income goes down.
i think the officer should be allowed to keep their income.

shudn't affect the officers income, but there cud be a financial cost to the commander for initiating this ability.

This is the best idea I have seen in a long time.

This would give commanders more ability to help their officers out. It seems like an alright idea to me.

I have a problem with this suggestion. This would make asgard more favorable as commanders, as they have more defense to spread out. Which would inevitably lead to them having even more units, more defense, and make them unstoppable. I know they already are, but still
