Mothership Status when Spying

I've noticed sometimes that covert logs seem to lie to me when it comes to motherships. Like for example, the log will tell me that a person's Mothership is out, but when I attack, it will be there. Or other times, the log will not give any info about the mothership, so I would assume it is in, but when I go to attack immediately afterwards, it's gone.
So does anyone have an explanation for this other than "their MS came back or they sent it out." Can the covert logs really give fake results sometimes?

Spy logs can sometimes say 'You notice an empty mothership docking bay' this just means they have one and it is there other time it wont say that thats when your spies havent managed to find out if your enemy has a mothership.

Ahh, alright. That just seems a little misleading, because when it tells you the docking bay is empty, you would assume it is out in space travelling, or looking for a planet, but in actuality it can still be there.

Yep, as the others say. If you see the line "Your spies notice an empty docking facility". Be prepared to face an MS, you can never know how powerful it is until you face it.
