To log into SGW Main you need 4 things
Numbers
Username
Email
Password
When logging in, i did a typo in my username that i didnt notice till the form was submitting, but it still let me login. So i went back and tried it again to confirm.
You can put anything you want in the username box. And it still lets you in.
I am using Firefox 2, also does same in 3. Just tested IE7, same thing happens.
Is the username an alternative to entering your email? Or is this just plain broke? Or again if its not needed, take it out?

If i put in my full user name or just the first letter then it logs me in...... but if I put 'anything' in the user name box it doesn't log me in.

You're right, with the first letter, i said ANYTHING, but infact, i used an 'r', which would also be the first letter of my username.
my username is 'richiet85'
i've tried
r
ri
ric
rich
and they all work - presume the rest works too.

yes, as long as they are the letters of your username and are in the correct order then they will work. This is not a bug.

Explain why it's not?
If the field isn't used, or at least working / used properly, it shouldn't be there.

I agree it's pointless. Everyone that plays the game knows what everyone's username is anyway. But I guess it doesn't take much just to put the first letter of your username in!

if you just type '%' it'll work no matter what your name is, which is why I don't even see why we need to enter our name at all in the login screen

Yeah, the way this looks, our 'name' is just our display name, and our email is our actual login name.
