A Word on Spam and Postcounts

The above forum members, marked with 2 red dots in the "Email" field, are all members of KGB. To prevent a bad image being formed, as we should be a so-called, "Spam Alliance"... this thread serves. Or at least... that was it's original intent.

'KGB' has a little over 6 percent of all forum posts on her name. This can be criticised, saying that we all spam a lot, bringing up a fine Monty Python reference. Personally, I'd like to think we have a lot to say, and that we do not just post like crazy, but try to make sense as much as humanly possible.

There are those instances in which people go posting when they are drunk. Please note that while we have so incredibly many posts, the Alliance does not back the words of her members when they are drunk. Also, spam references to "Mr. X masses Mr. Y" are to be ignored. Mr X being a KGB agent, and Mr Y being allied to another fine group of people.

Like a great person in KGB once said: "Show me the man, and I'll show you his crime." Our crime is spam, maybe?
Ah well... we live and die only for the Motherland, not for that very spam.

That said, I will close this post, and hope that you will not reckon to us our sins from the past... this is the collective of KGB speaking.

KGB stands for something... and I'm pretty sure it is not spamming. :)
Goodbye, goodnight, and good morning. We will talk again soon.

There is a difference between a post with meaning and one without. Spam is spam no matter how you try to make it something else. I myself do not mind spam in spam appropriate sections. I do not mind spam in celebrations and bonding parties. I do mind spam when a person continuously spams for no other reason then bordom and post counts.

With post counts like your group has then they all have history here in SGW, just as you do. That doesn't mean you are spammers by nature, but someone with a high post count and a long time playing versus a big post count on a new player shows a difference in traits.

Personnally I see no point in post counts themselves. All it seems to do is give spammers a goal to acheive.

I know for a fact that I have over 5500 posts who are not spam, for rest maybe posting in spam section, but I posted alot posts here when I wanted to make spam constructive, but well, it failed...

constructive spam = spam
destructive spam = spam

ie.
hot water = water
cold water = water

The constructive spam just makes this place better for everyone, and the destructive spam is fun for 1 or two people.

Spam exists outside of the spam temple. A fish out of water is still a fish.

Similar to what Lore expressed:
I think it's amazing that, almost 2 years or greater than two years of posting on this forum for each of those three players, is being claimed as a KGB accomplishment.

The alliance has been around for less than 2 months.

...

To those who intentfully misinterpret... like I said, this thread served to state that KGB is not a Spam Alliance, a.k.a. CS is NOT recruiting people based on their forum activity or history on SGW. This is in *no* way construable as me saying that KGB was spamming. Heck, I *know* KGB exists for 2 months. Jim and me founded it. I'm simply reacting to some 'disturbing' questions I got from a few people. They'd noticed this thing with postcounts, so I made this thread to tell them, and others who might be just as 'perceptive' that their suspicions are untrue.

Yes, I say "KGB has 5.5% of forum posts", bah. Wouldn't you, when you were looking at those things at all? I thought to take the wind out of the sails of those wishing to call us spammers.
Preventing generalisation. Because yeah, some of us *are* spammers.
It's illogical and incorrect to assume that by listing individual achievements, I suddenly claim the Alliance responsible for that.

Now, if it isn't too much trouble, please lock on authors request. Author would request a delete as well, but knows that is against forum policy and doesn't even think about it. Author will think about next time formulating it in a better understandable way, not as unclear as this one, not as easily misinterpretable.

Thread served author-intended purpose (badly).

Next time I try to defuse a potential mix-up, I'll use less words. :) Maybe the multitude of words clouded the intention to *prevent* the generalisation rather than *claim* to have achieved this as an alliance.
Next time I'll also leave the communication on behalf of the alliance in more capable hands.

You know, I never noticed, but I think KGB members are recruited by post count!!!

Seriously, anyone who knows Apophis, zekk, or osiris realizes they're spammers, but also knows they have just as many quality posts as spam. (I think ;))

I would have never realized that KGB had some of the top posters in its ranks before this thread. All you've done is merely inform people of the "post count conspiracy" :? I'm really tempted to spam your inbox with questions about KGB recruiting practices, but I won't.

Main point of the above, the people who think that post count defines a person are for the most part foolish. All it really does is show how long a person has been on the forums and how active, not the quality of the person themselves.

Tok`ra might be an exception, but even he had quite a few useful/informational posts.

I quit spamming for post count when they took away the spam contests. which was nearly two years ago now.

TP, you're right. That's the thing I concluded as well... it served the reverse of it's purpose. ;) :(
