As the title says this forum is now capable of uploading MP3's you can limit them to 524KB if you like (that will work for me) but yeah please guys turn them on..
We can have voice responses instead of posts wooot

I have concerns with the possibility that files, which may be illegally downloaded, would be unloaded here.
I'm pretty sure it possible to track a file when it's downloaded, and would rather not have Sony, BMG, Warner, or another company say we (are in some way) condoning the distribution of illegally dloaded music.
Users can post links to songs (ie. Youtube, etc.) in the music section. What purpose would having this function serve that is not already done or can't be done with a messenger service?

I don't understand.
10% that would appear here, 10% on you tube, 10% of all music, etc.?

ok, thanks
Does that mean then that the 10% that isn't copyrighted will be what is posted, without the rest of it?

You should certainly allow .wav uploads if the board is capable of it. Pretty sure we can get some nice recordings of Mr Sheehan on one of his drunken escapades!

A bit rate of 64kbit ripping to mp3 yeilds a file size of 405KB (with the file I used). I didn't have the chance to hear it out.
Jack O'Neill wrote:And that's another thing I've haven't ever heard of the RIAA, or anyone else for that matter, track illegal downloads via the download itself though, assuming one just so happened along to this site, I'm sure they wouldn't like it if this place became a oversized digital jukebox

I have. I do work for my uni's security services, someone dloaded a file and it was traced to a computer in a building. The studio contacted the university police and steps were taken to rectify the matter.

thats a little different than this scenario you propose now though, mainly the universitys range of ips was recorded as having downloaded the song, at which point they filed a dmca and the person who dled the song got busted because your network keeps track of what pcs are dling what, its not the file itself that got "tracked", its that the people saw the uni dled and demanded to know which pc did it.
in a case like this all they could do, is file a cease and desist dmca, at which point you just remove the content and they go away, however unless someone on the site up and decides to contact one of the labels and report the site, or it becomes as someone else said a jukebox, then you have no practical worry, at that point its like the indivual user not getting busted on a file sharing network.

I see the difference now...still though: possibility of getting illegal content?

why allow for the possibility? Are mod then expected to listed to all clips?
Total members 7931 ...let's say 100 post a three minute mp3 clip ...that is 3000 minutes (50 hours) added to modding
what are the pro's to the situation?

What uses is it going to serve? A new level of spam?
