Registering New Forum Accounts

Told a work colleague to sign up, seems though, that the account has to be approved by a forum adminstrator (and so the case for any other new person registering for the boards) it's been 48 hours, and still no response or confirmation that the account is active. Is it not possible to revert back to the old 'go to your email inbox and click the link' thing?

the problem with that is a flood of bots... something like 8 out of 10 registered accounts are bots...

Ok, it's understandable why you would want to approve each and every account then but it's kind of off putting for new members if they're never getting approved, don't you think?

it will get better later on... currently phpBB 3.0 is still quite new to us mods, so many things have to be reconfigured...

just PM an admin for now...

Part of the reason to approve every account is to try to protect the community (mainly younger members) from the explicity content that bots post (links to sites, extreme pictures, etc.).

That being said: if you see a bot post, please use the report post feature.

Thank you for stating the obvious and undermiming my intelligence ;)

I'm not questioning the reason to do it, I'm curious over the efficiency of handling the genuine requests. I'm not having a go, don't take it that way, just wondering what steps are going to be taken to ensure that genuine potential new forum members aren't discouraged because they can't even post because their account has not been approved.

See ;)

Supposing you're a brand new player with no contacts in the game whatsoever, you wouldn't be able to get a friend to request the approval of your account because you don't have any! :D And since you can't PM, you're royally screwed! A forum you can't post on, marvellous! 8)

You know what. I do apologize for that post. When I read what you wrote I though to myslef, "What the heck is he talking about?", "How did I undermine his intelligence?".

I misread what you wrote. I swear I though it said, "I don't know why you would wnat to approve every member".

I'm sorry. I haven't been able to sleep well (if at all), and have recently sought out assistance with that issue. I don't think you are "having a go". I think my current health and mental awareness/faculties aren't operating at full power.

Sorry again.
