Alliance Government

I'm curious, what type of order has the SGW community established in their alliances/coalitions or whatever.

My alliance has a bit of a funny history. (Please check out my article on Wikia by clicking here.) We went from a democratic republic (inspired after the United States of North America) or otherwise known as representational democracy or just plain old (misleading) democracy. Soon, I realized that that system of government sucked (as obvious with the decay/corruption of the American government too). No one would vote for me. So, my ingenius self, I dissolved the "Celestial Republic" and I installed the "Golden Empire" with myself as the Emperor and Mr. Bank as the Supreme Chancellor. I also established a joint Imperial Senate (formerly the High Council) and the Grand Council, as to make the system more efficient/timely and more interactive with the rest of the community. Then we got destroyed by Generations (and Blue Anders and his mate Vn70072), but an old mate of mine revived the alliance and renamed it the Luminoth, which also was destroyed by Generations, so then I re-created it and now we're the Soviet Reunion.

Feel free to share your own experiments with political systems. I've found that in history that democracies fail because the people are dumb (Socrates criticised it to). Republics are awful because it's a popularity contest and you have to pretend to be "one of them". Bureaucracies are a pain and are the least bit time-efficient. Anarchies are misunderstood; the main principle is that the people rule themselves without rules to tell them to do so.

So, which form of government would your alliance identify with?

A helpful guide for everyone:

Anarchism - the belief that the rulership is unnecessary and should be abolished.

Direct democracy (pure democracy) - sovereignty lodged in the assembly of all citizens who choose to participate.

Representative democracy - popular sovereignty by the people's representatives.

Dictatorship - an autocratic form of government in which the government is ruled by a dictator.

Empire - an entity ruled from a single center, such as a senate, council, or advisoring committee.

Oligarchy - political power effectively rests with a small, elite segment of society (whether distinguished by wealth, family or military prowess).

Plutocracy - state's power is centralized in an affluent (rich) social class.

Republic - sovereignty based on popular consent and governance based on popular representation and control.

Other - any that weren't mentioned.

Re-voting permitted.

Representative democracy

I think... well not quite sure to be excact. Can't stand being in an alliance that is a dictatorship.

Interesting topic, but I can see this going down the toilet quickly should things turn bad in the slightest. I'm watching this closely. ;)

As far as Dirty Dozen, we don't fit into any of those categories, but attempting to categorize the governing style of Dirty Dozen is just about as possible as possible as licking your ear.

This would be probably the closest to what you would come by defining TL with words...although I have on several ocasions thought to myself I am in the circus...zoo or smth wacky...silly but still in some order...

The future however will be heading towards the term Empire...but will remain aspects of anarchy and representative democracy...

Got to hand it to you...an interesting topics...and topics like these could be then put in one topic and sent to archives...where ppl could learn more about the alliances

People don't like pure democracies? It's actually possible to execute it on SGW because the members aren't in the billions. Something to consider. And always, voting is optional; usually people are welcomed to abstain.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone else have an Declaration of Player Rights, a founding article, alliance rules, an anthem, an alliance color, alliance logo, or any other organization?

I created an Inquisitorius (Spy Squad), a Diplomatic Corp (Diplomatic Officers), and a Imperial Guard (Military Arm).

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. =)

I suppose that from WarEagle's descriptions, Heavens Warriors is an empire. We have operated with a High Council since it was first formed. It can get a bit chaotic at times, but things always get done at the end. The size of the high council is determined by the number of alliance members and it is always an odd number to avoid tie votes (helps things get done quicker).

We also have a charter and laws that members must (try) to follow, but it hasn't been updated since the alliance was formed so it needs to be updated.

Pure democracies are very hard to maintain and execute effectively. If an alliance masses one of your members; the choice to go to war would have to be voted upon, and with people all around the world, it would take at least 24 hours then to make the decision. That can be too long sometimes. As long as the membership respects and accepts the ruling body, Rlyan would be correct that a dictatorship or empire is usually the most effective way to govern.

An alliance without rules is hard to discipline, and would be extremely hard to control. And a way to identify an alliance other than just the name is usually something good to have. DD has a logo and rules.
