Cargo Ships

Ok, been thinking abotu posting this one for awhile now and then I decided right lets just do it.

I know people will be like nooooo but I still think its a good idea for the game and it will benefit more for people (newer smaller players)..

In the Stargate universe they have cargo ships. Which are used to transport everything from goods to people to weapons etc..

Well with cargo ships you will now be able to have a fleet of cargo ships which will be protected by some of the gliders (fleets) from your ship.

The basic idea is that instead of instant delivery and depending on the rank of the player the time it takes to deliver goods will be varied.

As well as having various different times depending on technology upgrades, army size etc...

So since all that is all over the place lets try and sumerize it in bullet point form..

1. If your rank 1 and you want to send naq to rank 1000, it will take say 1 turn for delivery. But becuase rank 1 has say 100 million army size, that will slow down the delivery as it will have to be gathered from all over the realm. So lets say every 10 million UU slows it down by 3 turns as well. So in total 31 turns. If your rank 1 and you want to send to rank 10,000 it will take 10 turns as well as the 3 turns for however large your army size is per 10 million. So if its 100 million army size it will take 37 turns for delivery plus rest turns.

2. You can have a technology upgrades which will allow faster transport and include a cloak. You can also have a sensor array which will detect ships in nearby systems. As well as ships passing through your realm. The ships will be marked with a transponder of who's realm they belong to. (ID NUMBERS) This will also allow you to track your ship as it passes through someone else's realm..

3. You can have you resources hijacked, as long as they are not within 1 turn of someones realm.

4. Your ships can be lost with such naturally occouring phoenama such as black holes, solar winds, pulsars etc... The chances of this happening though are 1 in 10000

5. When a cargo ship is passing through your realm, your sensor arrays will be able to detect it, however if it is cloaked you will not be able to find it. Your mothership will be able to detect it by flooding the system with radiation, however this will be deadly to your Units on your planets/in your realm. So the more army size you have the more % of the loss you will have.. And it will ALWAYS kill your units

6. Your cargo ship will be able to refuel in planets of certain people, this way we can actually make planet classes... So for example a planet that produces UU will be a M-Class planet, an attack planet will be a L class planet, A naq planet will be a gas giant.. Etc... If you set your ship to rest on a planet say 24 turns into a journey and it is passing through a realm with only naq planets or something that cant really support life then it will not be able to repair it's systems. This will mean your ship can be hijacked.. The longer your resting the less chance you will be detected in open space. However you can be detected the longer you stay in that realm...

7. If your ship is on a planet while it is taken or the realm goes into perg you will lose the cargo ship... Not only that but the person who has gone into perg or who has stolen the planet will not gain anything either.. the transition is too much a stress on the ship..

8. Your cargo ship will be able to have weapon upgrades, shields, sensors, cloak, and hyperspace genarators... Replicators will be able to have an added bonus with upgrades..

All in all I think it would make it slightly more realistic and might be fun to sabatage some of those 25 mil uu brokers that people have going :P

Also when the broker system comes into play, you will ONLY be able to broker if they are within 48 turns of you. :D Sorry had to get that one in there....

Opinions?

Kind of complicated....don't really like this.

As far as realistic goes, when has anything in this game ever been realistic.

i acctually like this idea, but.. you would have to have a number of galaxies with a certain number of solar systems within each galaxy, and everyone would have to be assigned to a solar system.

and i dont like that bit about 48 turns, but it should take about 1 turn to get to the otherside of the solar system

this would require too much rewriting of the game code, so wont be added... especially not when considering that simpler things have been declined by admin... (like separate %s of income to officers...)

had this been in the planning stage of a game, then it could have been added...

i like it, but not as in complicated way as it is as stated. maybe, before some one has FSS, they could get cargo, so goods could be sent among player with out fss, only the deliver time would be longer, a day or two. This would help smaller players trade goods among them selves, and alow the shipments of goods to perg. limits on size of cargo.
