Longer signatures

I know there are people that would just put huge ones in, but it makes it unfair. The character limit is so low that I can't put in my decently sized signature, much less make a business out of doing them for others.

That's not that large, just a lot of text to it. I suggest a 4K character limit. This flag requires 3,450 characters and is so small that it uses under 800 characters for just the actual words.

Agreed.

And the problem is that it counts the coding for colors and size as part of the characters, further limiting sigs. colors take up no extra space, why should they be counted as such?

Exactly. It's highly unfair to the people that want to properly use signatures, but are limited due to the massive amounts of text required for such things as those flags.

I agree there should be more room, besides I want to add my American flag :)

Much obliged, and it may or may not. It's just the fact that the color coding takes up like 4 times the space of the actual wording. We've got Mods to watch over other signatures and do something if they're too long.

Posters are responsible for ensuring their sig meets requirements. Mods are not babysitters.

Your sig is beyond the 500 part of the allowed sig area. You will need to edit it.

solution to issue at hand:
- do what you did again, but this time in paint, photoshop, etc.
- make sure it is 500 x 350 pixels or less (total allowed sig area)
- save it as a *.jpeg
- upload to file hosting service
- enter img tag in sig area

Q. lots of text, but still within the 500 x 350 pixels?
-open the images in pict editing software
- combine to fix 500 x 350 pxls, make sure it is 500 x 350 pixels or less (total allowed sig area)
- upload to pict hosting service
- enter img tag and following step as above

Rule 11 doesn't apply and that does nothing for the problem at hand. I'm making them text so people can't steal them. Also, this forum is honestly rather poorly made. I've had several of my own and you can easily set the limitations for the signature...like they've done with 500 characters. That would mean somebody wouldn't be able to have an image larger than the 350x500 space. You just said that people are responsible for their own signatures, and Mods aren't there to baby. Then you go and baby. [Spacey edit out.]

I'd also like to point out that the text in your signature is too long as well. Fix that, then we'll see if you've got the right to baby a member you claim it's not your job to baby. Make sure you're following the rules before you EVER try to enforce them...good day.

Very well the sig will be removed, however I know how to create a sig, I did that a long wile ago, I'm surprised that no one has brought it up before if its so wrong, however I honestly don't care.

No, I'd prefer to tell him off. I've owned, Administrated, and Moderated many forums in my day and have [Spacey edit out.]

What I meant it that posters are responsible for making sure their signatures fall into the allowed limits. Posters have responsibility is what I am talking about.

What I gave you was a way to accomplish what you want to see given what you wish to do.

You are totally correct on one account:
Rule 12 and 11 was on the same line last night (before I fixed it) and I forgot to change what I typed here.

EDIT: I had originally thought that I had made an oversight when editing my sig, and in having text that stretched over the limit, making you point valid. But I remembered and checked something just know. I make and edit my sigs on a university computer that has a much different screen resolution than my own, and even mine (I would imagine) has something different from yours. It looked fine when I made it (at university), but I realize that it probably doesn't show up the same for you. I have corrected for that, and tried to show you part of what I am talking about.

Look at the yellow line (pict after changes made to make it look ok like it does for me...notice the typing error), for a screen resolution the same but in different windows. My setup (two lines) looked fine at my univerisity but probably doesn't in your skin, browser, and with your screen resolution. I have changed it to three line now to avoid this confusion in the future.

Nothing to take up with the Administration. I'm good now aside from the original problem at hand.

The problem is not going to be solved so easly...

I do beleive that the sigs will be stored as varchar(359) or some such. while they could increase the size, this is not as easy as it sounds. the database has to record that the blank spaces as well as the full ones, this means that increasing the sig limit to 4k would probably mean that sigs mould take up more space than the rest of the user table (several times over). O_O

Oh, and you dont have to do it again in photoshop.

print screen, paste in paint, crop, upload.

Take a screenshot.

Honestly, there's a reason why there's a limit, and if the only reason you have to expanding it is to do text art, then take a screenshot of said text art... not my fault you're too laaaaazy. ^^
