I'l tell you why, I can only think of one remake, "the thing" and that was bloody awesomeer than the original...i'l now list the 80's best films...Do you agree, do you believe anouther decade was better? Doubtful....

So many originals, Nothing can beat the 80's on movies, every single one of these movies is glorious...And just to say, 2000-2010 cannot be a contender, because battlefield earth was made in 2000, and this is the worst film ever known by man.

The diamonds:
Predator
Dirty harry
Blade runner
Full metal jacket
Terminator
Die Hard
Scarface
Ghost busters

Well Die Hard and Scarface would win in any decade.
Most of todays films are really good but would never have the effect of say Tony Montana getting a shotgun in the back at the end of Scarface. That's spine shivering stuff.
Even films like the Matrix fall short in comparison to Die Hard.
I got Ghost busters on Dvd recently

It's hard to say... I mean, there are so many excellent films that fall either just outside of - or waaay away from that decade - reservoir dogs, The Godfather, etc. etc. etc.
Still, overall - yeah, the 80's smoked the theaters.

its true the 80's did have brilliant films
hehehe just found this about airplane!:
The popularity of Otto, the inflatable pilot, is such that he has his own page on the Internet Movie Database, even though he hasn't appeared in any other films
