Up Question

I feel like such a big n00b asking this >_> I have 100,000 up mk. Now if I get a co do I loose any up or do they just get a boost and I keep what I have?
If you are without a commander. You would lose 10% of that because being out a commander gives you a 10% bonus to UP and a 10% bonus to income.
If you are your own commander, you would lose 20%. The reason is because being your own commander gives you a 20% UP bonus and no bonus to income.
