Additinally, you can install a homing beacon on any of your planets. This will find the planet at any time in the future - once per beacon installed.

You go to Planet Summary, find the planet you want to place the beacon on and click 'Install Beacon for 1,000,000,000 Naquadah'. You should get something like this:
You have implanted your first beacon on this planet.
You can use this beacon at any time, to find out the current whereabouts and status of the planet.

If someone conquers your planet, you can, at any time in the future, find it by using the beacon (which, however, only works once):
You determine the following from the use of your beacon:
The planet is currently owned by ....
The planet is currently named ....
Lastly, the planet is currently in normal space.
That is all that you could determine. This beacon is now deactivated on the planet, being totally spent.

Actually, a billion is something you can easily get, and worth it if you can then also get the planet back... and keep it :)

Indeed, after you've invested many billions into infrastructure, let alone defense... a billion for the ability to recover the planet, and take revenge on the end buyer - is dirt cheap.

in conjunction with the already presented information (from the update page):

*Planets can have beacons installed on them. A beacon -when used-will tell you where the planet is, and if it is in/out of phase. Beacons never die, until used.

*A note on the above updates, taken in conjunction: the reason abandoning and only 1 planet per day stayed, despite plans otherwise, is that the beacons can be used to track a planet, and with enough beacons, and time, it is entirely possible to retrieve all planets taken at any time. Besides, everyone needs enemies :)

Later on in the game you will find becons to be relatively cheap to buy. I find them important as i would like the planets i have put so much time and resources into to be returned to me, if they come back damaged, so be it, i just want them back. However most of the time the planet is a very valuble resource, producing so much whatever, and so it only make sense to get back a upgraded planet than to start again from scratch, sort of like continuing to use your account rather than start a new one from scratch, what with all the income, up and so on. Also, its a good way to get revenge on someone who would steel your planet, after all, its only a matter of time befor you become strong enough :-D
