What would this game be like without alliances?

The biggest complaint sI have witnessed in this game are alliances, super alliances, empires, massing because of alliances. Farming of alliances.
What would happen if we did not have them to the three main components of the game.
1/ Stats
2/ Army Size
3/ Farming
4/ Wars
5/ Friendship
Now I know that most ppl will say their friendship would sit through it, but I wonder if it would. Communication friendship, retributional attacks, what would happen? It is a topic for discussion not a suggested enhancement so please leave it in general mods.
Ps No flaming

I genuinely think most of my friendships would stay the same....I know very fey people outside my alliance, but the guys I've known, I've known for years now....
The best example would be the fact that I was a spy in the original Order in mid-05, for the COAA....the Order then merged with the COAA and when I told them the truth, we all just laughed about it....
It wouldn't matter whether there were alliances or not....I'd always have Chris, Mem, Mark, Frazz, Blip, Rich, etc's backs....I've trusted them with all the uu from my accounts before now....a tag wouldn't change that

If you got rid of formal alliances, you'd probably just end up with a load of sycophants around the big players....kinda like now but way worse.

Game was better, there was race wars, like Goaulds vs Tauri/Asgards.
There was alliances, just that there wasn't the tag ingame
It was better, game had sense at that time...

No alliances...it would make the forum a friendlier place as it would be the best place to make friends. I think the game would be more competative aswell, less moral guidelines and less official guidelines to stop the top players mashing each others accounts back to the stone age.

As mentioned above, the game has always had alliances even before they were officially put into the game. As long as there are players people will form alliances. If the game did not have alliances it would be pretty boring.

Was way better when alliances were not tagged ingame, that enabled easily spies into alliances hehe

Firstly - cracking topic crazywolf!
I agree it might have been better back then - but I don't think it was in-game alliances that made the game worse - not solely responsible anyway.
Although in-game alliances ruined some of the fun, and tactical game play involved. You couldn't just mass anyone without doing some proper intel first - because you didn't know what alliance they might belong to and so didn't know what kind of retribution you would receive.
In-game tags have also immediately turned people off possibly attacking others - they see a tag and automatically steer clear, whereas previously, you could take a gamble/risk based on what you did/did not know about that player - this has got rid of some of the tactical diplomacy within the game and protected a lot of players simply by the so called reputation of an alliance.
Conversely, I disagree with Privius that tags mean there is more chance for fighting - prior to tags, unless you did your research you couldn't be 100% sure which alliance members you were attacking and this could lead to more fallouts/disagreements/wars/battles/skirmishes than since tags were introduced.
It was better before the tags,, because you actually had to do some work to find out who your enemy/potential enemy actually was - hence intel had to be better and people co-operated more - there was a more a sense of needing to work together.
Apophis - to be fair - spies can still easily be placed into alliances - if it's done properly - that was proved in thr lead up to the GA/LC war - and since.
I'd love to see an older version of the game reborn.

I think that alliances would still exist behind the face of the game.
Not in the mood for big posts, but it would be interesting to say the least.

Alliances would definately exist behind the face of the game - there is no way of stopping them. The fact that they did prior to the introduction of in-game alliances is testament to that. There is no way to ever ban alliances.

I think I prefered it without the Tags, super alliances do exactly what Wolf has been saying, stop people from attacking because of the tag they have, instead of what there account holds. I remember my N00b days where I spied, guessed who was friends with who then attacked if I thought it worth the risk..
Much more fun. Much more risk, great laugh with unknown risks. I fought and played a lot harder in those days

If alliances weren't part of the game itself, people would still find a way to make them, just like they did before tags were put into the game. Besides, alliance wars, although sometimes annoying, are an incredibly fun part of this game. Getting to know a group of people, like those in my alliance for two years now, and then fighting along side of them adds so much and makes this game much more worthwile.

My relations with my true friends and allies would sit through which luckily happens to be most of my allies and some people outside of naps and such. Anyone after that is fair game.

Met most of my friends via the forum, only a few ingame, and they are now mostly gone, So it wouldnt affect me friend wise.
Account wise? Well i used to attack anyone anyway so....again not much difference there.
Without true alliances it would be hard to find reason to go to war, youd just have to be really blunt about things
"you massed my person..."
"Doesnt have your name on it..."
"oh right well, im still going to kill you..."
"I see....thats not fair"
"waaaaa"
Oh god, it would create more whineing! lol
Oh the headaches it would create....Agreed with wolf, would love to see an earlier version of main appear, this time with tokra staying instead of replidoodles
