Attack and Defensive Units

I've been playing the game for a few weeks now, but i've been focusing all of my efforts on building up a good UP and Naq generation. I recently found out that the alliance I joined is going to go to war. So I've been looking at things that I might need to do to be suited to go to war. Granted, I don't have the capabilities to take on anyone, I still wanted to ask a few questions about it.
I know how to train up people like attack or defesive drones/clones. But I had a question about the armory. Do I just buy a bunch of the most expensive items? Or do I ahve to buy a variety to equip with drones/clones? Any other tips are more than welcome!

One unit can only use one weapon, and one weapon can only be used by one unit. So you're better off just buying as many of the most expensive (and most effective) attack/def weapons as attack/def units you have.

So like one Defensive clone can use one Time Dilation Field Generator? It works that way? Is there any benefit to buy other weapons? Or should I just focus on buying items like Time Dilation Field Generators

Cheaper weapons will be weaker than the most expensive ones (time dilation field generators, if you're an Asgard). So don't bother with the cheaper ones, buy only time dilation field generators for your def units.

On the flipside, if you're in a war, having anything more than a token defence is often a waste. Also, buying a large amount of the cheapest weapons is a possible way to prevent the sabbing of your good weapons, but not always effective.

So I should have a fair amount of both weak and strong?

Ordinarily, no, if you're in a war, it doesn't cost much so why not?
