i think in game messaging should be more elaborate like posts on this forum like we should have emoticons and font and color

i agree - paragraph formatting must go on Forum's 'Must Do' list!

I'm sure that when most people write their messages it looks fine to them - but by the time it is received it is a complete pot mess!

But why exactly do we need fonts and colours, or even emoticons? i do not see how they will add to the game.

Exactly, plus why would you want to use emoticons and different colours in game, the pm system is for contacting people not to show them that you know how to use pointless colours and pictures.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about?


Colour in text does not take up server space >.<.


It's HTML which is interpreted by your browser.





My thoughts... If "Forum" had the time, which I don't belive he does, would be to build the PM system either like the current forum PM setup - or even to intergrate it into the forums.


It would save me (and a lot of other people) a LOT of time to intergrate most of the game things together...


Main, Quantum, Ascension, Chaos, Forums...

That's 5 things straight off, plus people have alliance forums to go to, click lists to click...


Although it'd be a large project to take on... It'd be a very good one.

actually... all of the messages are stored on the server, and colors WOULD take up more server space. As you noted, it is all html, but every "<font color="Red"></font> adds up... I'm not saying that it isn't feasible, it is just that he was partially correct in the assumption that it would take up more space.

True... It's all text though, stored in the MySQL database...


I would presume "Forum" would have a dedicated MySQL machine these days.


Using style sheets would make it faster and use less server space...


But he was presuming that the actual colour took up space on the server >.<.



As for emoticons, to save space you could always use the forum ones .

Sorry to seem harsh sauron, but i didnt see any reason why forum should waste time doing these minor things when there are other things that would be far more usfull for us all with the time he spends working on sgw.

i like the paragraph formatting - the rest is useless - in my opinion

meh its only pms who realy gives a rats ass (geeks maybe) most people are using msn these days anyway thats the first thing i tell my officers to get so i can help them easyer

Paragraph formatting & line breaks (enter = go to next line not "/" )- yes
The rest, just seems a bit uneccessary...
