This is my first attempt at using an avatar. The height, width, and
file size meet the requirements, but when I try to load it from my desktop
It shows the little red x. I tried doing the whole Url bit from the website

Its the closest to the top of the page, centered. The flaming eye. Dont steal it! Its pretty cool Huh?. I used both the animated version and the still frame pic to no avail, Help

#1: somethings up with the locally hosted avatars, you can't get em to work

#2: some sites block outgoing image hosting, you may have to save the file to your computer and then host it yourself on one of many free webhosting services

mine comes up with a little red cross too and mine is on my computer.

what can i do to fix it?

Vixen: Go to Photobucket.com (thanks 3rd) You must "host" the file.
Don't worry, it will be free. You must deposit the pic on the web site. Its self explanatory from there. If I remember corectly, It will give you the exact adress (the URL) that you will need. If not, right click and read it on its properties synopsis. Finally, in your profile edit
copy that adress in full under "link to off site avatar"

Having browsed the forum and seen all those nasty red crosses everywhere i and another moderator, Compmage, have decided to help all you guys and gals out. Now we have taken the time to get this sorted for you all so please pay attention.
If your avatar will not work either:
1. PM Compmage or i by clicking the PM button on any of our many posts
2. Enter your plight in this here thread and i will PM you instead
Once you have done that we will both fully expect you to have (at hand) a link to your avatar's site/location on the web, OR for you to know how to insert the image into a PM.

rely ? wow thnx errm any idea how i get this avatar thingy to play in my signiture ive seen overs do it but i dont know how

add [img] in the front of the link and [/img] in the back of it, no spaces and it should work just fine
