Mm, is this the topic where everyone wishes everyone else, and someone in particular to shut up?

Revealing the word filter list only serves those who wish to insult without being filtered. As such, it is ..
Leaves pointless thread.

those 2 are filterd.
No clue why.
Just because most of us are happy with those words, it doesn't mean that everyone is, and we must remember that there are many youngsters who use the forum. Whether the youngsters already use such words or not, should we mods/responsible adults be encouraging them?

I didn't say it was a bad word - and like I said - whether they know/use the words or not - should we be encouraging it? No, is the answer.

Since when is tok'ra a responsible adult?

I think there's some pretty obvious reasons we can't post a list of banned words. That's just... stupid... Can we please not try to get around the banned word list with spaces and things. That is a violation of rules.

If they are not "bad words" then why refer to them as "such words"? Why single them out and say they should not be spoken in the presence of kids? Why would it matter if we "encouraged" the use of these words if they were not "bad"?Are you going to tell me that these words are not "bad" persay but might "offend" someone so we shouldn't use them? If so then we should start banning any and every word that could possibly offend someone, I'll start the list with "yank/yanky". Everyone else should now contribute, maybe then Wolf will see just how foolish this notion of political correctness isFor the record, I absolutely despise anything "PC"
I cannot stand the notion of tiptoeing because someone MIGHT get their feelings hurt, if someone hates you and insults you then either IGNORE THEM or insult them back! New concept difficult to understand I know, but you're going to have to because not everyone is going to love you and there will even be those that hate if for nothing other then your skin color, you're just going to have to get over it and move on with your life! If someone steps on your toes either push em out of the way punch them or stop and bend over for them, whining is not an option.
Once again - read what I post - Not all of teh words are bad, but some, mainly mild profanity, are. However, as to the other word, if my son started saying that around the house, and I found out it was because he'd thought it was perfectly acceptable because people were using it on a forum, I'd be annoyed.
Just because these words are accepted and used by a majority of adults and youths, it does not mean that they should be allowed/used/encouraged in a public forum. Personally, as an adult of 33, I don't really want to be reading forums littered with profanity, no matter how mild - and it does nothing except to demonstrate the lack of vocabulary of the poster and in turn, makes them look quite pathetic.
Frankly, your post is way too pedantic and hard line. I agree that perhaps not all of the words are 'bad' - but others should remain on the list.
I dislike a lot of PC too - I live in the UK - which has gone PC mad, and where national holidays, traditions and even festive seasons are under threat just in case they 'upset' those who come from a different ethnic/religious background. But, I don't really think this is a PC issue, and to make it such is wrong - it is more an issue of acting responsibly in an environment that includes youngsters.

If you can't teach your kids right and wrong and have to rely on some forum to do it for you, then you have no right to complain anyway. Last I checked this forum wasn't setup to be a babysitter much less to raise children.
If I were like you, and my child started cussin' like a sailor, then the kid would get a beatin', don't be afraid to backhand your child for cussin' they need to know who the boss is
I wouldn't do this though, I cuss and it would be hypocritical for me to punish my child for the same damn thing I do. Which is BAD parenting

It's not the cuss words I want removed, I want words like Hi tler removed
Tell me again why the name Hit ler is even on the list, I'm pretty sure you were around when it was added and no the reason
Wolf359 wrote:Frankly, your post is way too pedantic and hard line. I agree that perhaps not all of the words are 'bad' - but others should remain on the list.
I was taught never to comprise, same goes for my nit picking, it's a byproduct of my raising + schooling
But that's a good thing, and you're only pointing it out as a justification to the things I've pointed out, you're basically saying that it doesn't matter cause it's a small detail, well would you pay top dollar for a Ferrari with a dent? It's only a "small" detail

Really? Couldn't tell
Jack - trust me, my kids know the difference between right and wrong and, frankly, this is not the place to bring up anybody's parenting skills. And I did not say that a forum should be teaching anybody's kids - what I said is that a public forum which allows admittance to youngsters should take on some form of responsibility for the type of language it allows - big difference!
Additionally, punishment can be adminsitered without the need for 'a beatin' or a 'backhand.' Kids should be punished where appropriate, including physically if necessary - but that kind of punishment would fall under the category of physical assault. And for info, I am a sailor.
Yes - it is bad parenting to use profanity around your children.
Again - read what I post - did I say there was anything wrong with the word you mentioned? No, I didn't - in fact I'm sure you'll see if you re-read my post that it was the profanity I was getting at.
There is always room to consider compromise - and I wasn't saying you were pedantic and hard line to justify anything or to say it is a small detail - it was to point out that the word filter for the majority of the words is there for a good reason, and that we shouldn't remove them simply because you and others want to use the words. Like I said - persistant use of profanity is only for those with a limited vocabulary trying to look clever. And if I could afford a Ferrari then I'd go and buy a decent car.
In all honesty - if you cannot understand the reason for a forum that allows youngsters to be free of profanity, then it's pointless having this discussion. As it is, you seem to not read, or keep missing the point anyway.

Well, as for the kiddies getting a profanity free zone, I don't think there's much point. In my experience, the time when I swore the most was 7th grade or so. The same with many of my friends (although most of them were more mature than me and swore less). Also, why was the Godwin's law chap filtered? His name isn't a curse word, he's a historical figure that tends to get referenced a lot. What's the point?
