Combine the abovementioned post with a strong connection to the Administration, and you have an idea of what that is, and how it got there.

A group, including quite a few mods wanted to do something nice for some underprivelaged people for christmas. No one is obliged to join but if you'd like to, you're more than welcome to.

You speak as if you believe the link would have never been placed if it were say Elladan that had the idea and desire to it, that the only reason it was created was because there were mods involved.

Not at all.. you may have misinterpretated.
The idea came upon a few members of the community, posting in that thread. Among them, as Smoosh says, quite a few mods.
As it has absolutely no merit to discuss the probability or improbability of any other, therefore strictly hypothetical situation, I won't go into it much.

Rest assured that I am not such a fool as to believe the suggestion coming from any other similarly sizeable group of people would have been killed.

If you or any of your friends would like to make a contribution you are more than welcome and I'm sure would even be greatly appreciated.

It's just a nice thing to do, the people involved are honestly not up to anything seedy if that's your concern. Just take it for what it is.
