Selling planet defences

Hey, how about letting us sell off planet defences the same as you can weapons?

Failing that, at least let us dismantle the def (like untrain, you don't get any cash back)...

Failing that, let us broker them as-is, keeping the def intact (transfer it instead of having to have it attacked).

Failing that, add planets to the SS "give" function...

Wouldn't we rather give our planets to junior officers when we're replacing them? Or broker them to buyers if we sell them on the market?

Anyone see a down-side to this?

highly impractical... would be cause for abuse... (building many defenses, upgrading size, selling again...)

there are many who are willing to dismantle defense for you...

these are things Forum did not want to implement, so not likely to happen...

giving them to officers is possible to do by getting a third party to mass the defense...

the brokering on market is highly unlikely to happen, but the selling on market is still possible... here

I was just thinking about suggesting this myself :D

Make it so you only get the cost of the defenses at size: small or very small (or even 80% of that, like with weapons), regardless of the planet's current size :)

Well yeah, that was the idea. Obviously it would be open to abuse if people could use it like a bank, there should be a significant loss when selling. It shouldn't be hard to reverse engineer the cost of the def and calculate it's worth. 10 def at price 'x', 100 at price 'y', 1000 at price 'z', etc gives you the total - whack 40% off it (like untrained mercs) and pay back the balance. Then it's no more open to 'abuse' than stashing excess cash in untrained mercs...

If it's proves unpopular to be able to sell them off, I'd even settle for being able to "untrain" them and lose 100%. Then at least I could let a junior officer with a minimal MS take the thing instead of throwing it away...

having it remember would take a lot of new coding... there is no system currently that remembers the different stuff like when defenses were bought...

Mmmm.. yeah that would be a pita to code. But it doesn't need to remember, only to calculate the "worth" at market rates - which are fixed. 30m each for the first 10, 40m for the next 90, 50m for the next 900, etc. Reach a total, and pay out 60% of it.

If you upgraded the planet size first, and then put def on it from zero @ 70m a hit once it was huge it's tough cookies, basically. Can't have your cake and eat it, getting *anything* back's a bonus.

I like this idea.

At least give the ability to dismantle or give to officer (then you can give something else other then mercs to officers)

You shouldn't be able to really dismantle them at all, they are buildings remember, and the troops manning them would be some sort of militia. If you abandoned planetary defenses i would say also take some of the planetary bonus away, as they are "leaving" the planet, and so no longer support its economy.

What about it even charging you a very small fee per defense to dismantle...you could say that is the salary for the workers required to dismantle it.

Some sort of system (code friendly) should be implemented to give that planet or scrap it. It’s common sense.

"Hello my best friend and current ally mass my hard work and take from it what you can"

It’s not like its being done already just a much much sloppier and distasteful manner.

maybe if a system is adopted make it race spicific... they would slow things down a bit for the lowbies.
