what do they do? I just keep buying them having no idea what they do, should i stop?

if i`m correct they do nothing in the main sever but in the acended server they give you APP

True. They are pointless in the main server, except for when you ascend it does give you more AP. I'm not certain on the conversion though. Someone who has the G&R to ascend that can see the conversion rates could tell you though.

They do absolutely nothing in main.

But they're handy to take a couple hundred mil up with you when you ascend, you'll get AP for them which you need a boatload of to convert to lf for upgrades.

I could be wrong, ascended recently but can't remember the figure, but I *think* you get 1 AP for every 40 um's.

Mine says 1AP for 2400 untrained mercs. Thats been the same for each ascension

well other uses are for saving naq... but not many do it since the loss when selling is pretty high..
it can also be used to tranfer them to your officer so he can sell it for naq (CO without FSS)
besides this, APP

I remember reading that you get more APP from the naq you would have spent on UU mercs than the mercs themselves give you...

It's 1:2400 for Trained Mercs, only 1:4800 for Untrained.
