Children’s series, yet I still find myself occasionally re-reading the odd book. Absolutely loved them when i was a kid.
My personal favorites are:
Mossflower,
Martin the Warrior,
Redwall,
and... though my memory is sketchy, Salamandastron.
Eh, I started to lose interest in the series after Marlfox;
and all subsequent works i've browsed lack the charm I remember. (Perhaps i'm just to old now.)

Been there.
I trust your local library carries at least some of his books in the children’s section?
I would strongly recommend you shy away from his latter works... as mentioned, it might simply be my age, but I think they fall under the 'ride a template to death' style of literature.

hmm, depends what you mean by older books. If you mean in order of publishing then a few are not as good as others. If you mean in chronological order of the history of mossflower etc then the books such as Martin the Warrior, Lord Brocktree and Legend of Luke are the best

Actually, now that I think about it, Chronological-history is a more accurate judge -- I need to re-read Outcast of Redwall and Legend of Luke, I never really appreciated them, but I think that might be due to young age in the former, and a preexisting mental image of how the history 'should look' in Legend -- But, other than those two I can find no fault.

And a second on the Lord Brocktree.

Hmm... I feel like i'm ten again.
'Tis not a good feeling.
---------------------------------------
Chronological order:
(All hail wiki, it saved me a trip down memory lane <_<)
Lord Brocktree,
Legend of Luke Bk2,
Martin the Warrior,
Mossflower,
Legend of Luke Bk's 1 and 3,
Outcast of Redwall,
Then Mariel/Bellmaker,
Salamandastron,
Redwall,
Mattimeo,
Pearls of Lutra,
The Long Patrol,
Marlfox,
The Taggerung,
Triss,
Loamhedge,
Rakkety Tam,
High Rhulain [*],
and finally, Eulalia should be coming out this year.
---------------------------------
And now, if the reader still has any respect for my bookshelf...
Of all of those, the only one I have yet to read is High Rhulian... Of all of those, the only two I don't own are Outcast and High Rhulian. And yes, I too have Triss in hardback (not one of my favorites, but meh..)
---------------------------------
Indeed, Redwall is probably the fourth largest collection of books I possess;
Preceeded by Classic Battletech, **Filtered**, and Heinlein. <_<

there are 3 legend of luke books? i've only read one!
High Rhulian is good, it might be about otters (who aren't exactly my fav type of animal)
Whats Eulalia about? Lady Cregga perhaps?
Also i wonder if he'll ever expand on the story of King Bucko Bigbones and Lord Mortspear Ungatt Trunns father!
Ungatt Trunn has to be one of my fav villains

The '3' books refers to the divisions of the one Legend of Luke book.
I tend to forget, but technically all the redwall books are each subdivided into 'three' mini-books.
I must admit, I clearly underestimated the hold redwall had over me as a kid. This isn't me talking, but some over-exicted niche-reader who has finally found an audience.
