Mordack wrote:I don't think that cash spending is as great a problem as a lot of people are making out. There have always been players who have poured their own money into the game. They were here right from the start. Does anybody remember ELUSIVE and the amount of PPTs which he purchased during the first few months? People used to joke that he could have funded the server single-handedly.

Updates might be part of it. I've been one of the most vocal critics of the ruinous changes which were made to the ascension server, and like many others I fear that main is going swiftly down the same route. Jason has tossed us the origins server, but I fear that it's going to be too little too late. Too many players are too deeply entrenched in this game, and have neither the time nor the inclination to start afresh.

Was it the Empires which ruined the game? Perhaps. They certainly weren't healthy. Many people find the idea of an oligopoly extremely unappealing. People complained when the NAPs stifled gameplay, and people continue to complain about how boring the server war is. Yet it was the majority of players who facilitated this decision... joining coalitions and engaging in arms race. Perhaps we're as much to blame as Jason is.

I'd like to think the game isn't dying. We still have a lot of good active players, and we still have something which resembles a sense of community on these forums. But who has the power to make radical change at the eleventh hour? Alliance leaders? Forum admin? Jason?

This last week I've been thinking a lot about my future on this game. I'm not quitting, but I'm not doing nothing either. If we don't want this game to die then we need to think about what we, the playerbase, can do to save it. Because yes, things are going downhill at the moment, and will continue to do so unless we pull our finger out.

I 100% agree but what exactly is the solution. I think there are enough people who care and want the game to improve but it's a very sticky situation, right now. Finding a solution which improves the game without creating a negative financial impact for Jason is what should be discussed in more detail. That is the fundemental problem therefore I encourage everyone to the suggestions board. :) The will and support of the community isn't the issue in my opinion.

Similarly, I believe that people in general are inherently flawed. Deep down, we are programmed to hurt one another; either physically or emotionally. People are naturally selfish and greedy; governed more by bestial urges than common sense or ethics. Society is a terrible thing, too. Re: Is SGW dying?

Game is dead to be honest, was the day planets came out, then he added Nox to further ruin it.

Resources are so easy to get that massing people has become pointless and time consuming due to Nox, pointless and quick without it. Due to planets recovery rates are huge and the ability to mass for very low losses is firmly established, now Jason has basically said by adding the ability to BUY dual planets that he won't even accept planets are an issue, instead he will just let his cash cows pick up as many as they want to pay for.

No one is scared anymore, it takes no real skill to do anything in this game anymore. Hell a lot of players just play to make $$ now, may well end up doing the same myself before long.

Re: Is SGW dying?

It changes. Its like a liveing thing. Alot of people think alot of reasons are to blame for the changeing of the game, But the fact of the matter is, I dont believe that its dyeing or dead. For one it hasnt gone all stiff and doesnt smell funny.

Sure, You cannot play ascended, and you dont really have to, But people are still descendable given half a chance. Updates did kill off advantages on that feild of play, il give yall that, but it isnt gone entirely, and can be brought back from the brink with a few simple things needed to be done. The problem with ascended was newly ascended people used to be able to get squished. Now that is not the case, and it went downhill from there. Due to whineing. No offence to anyone who whined.

Main, main has never been more active. The biggest war we have ever seen is upon us!? And...yes...it doesnt take alot of skill anymore to do anything on main, but frankly, that can be changed too, it wont be...but...i guess we all have origins to look forward too.

No , its not dyeing or dead, its different than it used to be, and perhaps has not changed for the best, but i put that down to excessive whineing, and rubbish updates being put into place because of this whineing.

My thoughts are simple, to restore the game. Completely Remove miners, and keep the raid option. Simple, but it would make it OH so much more fun again, and bring back the skill and the fear. :D

War, terror, disease... There were a myriad of problems displayed to corrupt your reason...and rob you of your common sense, but fear got the best of you, and in your panic you turned...
turned to every new update that was suggested, every escape from the difficult ways that once were.

They promised you order...promised you a reprieve from your accounts doom and all these things demanded in return was your silent obedient consent. I once sought to undo these wrongs. The protected planets treaty, the over powering role of ascension and the ingame market...but my attempts were cast down nearly four years ago by some of the very members who stand here now and complain.

Only the players can change the game. Admins should be bowing to their players, not players bowing to admins. The choir of voices that now rise up seek to point out a fault, and they are right.... There is something very wrong with this game.

Empires are not the problem, they are the natural evolution of any game on this scale. The strong ally for fear of losing power, it was inevitable.

The players attitudes are an immovable feature.

The game mechanics, the ones that you, the players have allowed to come and go are your problems.

SGW is not dead yet, and it will die a very long, painful death...but this game needs more than a thread now, it needs an idea..a future...a goal, a plan.

Origins...needs to be tested with planets and motherships, then it needs to be implemented into main SGW. Miners and lifers need to be killable. Spies and assassins, attack troops need to defend when defenders are gone. The wearied defenders of bloated accounts need a purpose again and the drives to attack (AT's I believe you call them..) need once again shown the full extent of their limitations.

Only you, the players can change it now...I suggest instead of merely marvelling at the downfall of this thing so many hold dear as a forum of entertainment...you seek to fix it too.

Re: Is SGW dying?

i gave up caring abt the game a long time ago, the reason i continue playing is cos i have good alliance mates

origins on the other hand, might be worth the effort of playing - although from the way its shaping up to be - it looks like it won't be

Re: Is SGW dying?

Raiders and traders are killing the game play, resources are so easy to come by and so cheap that no effort is needed to build massive accounts, this leads to Blackmarket admin prices being lowered to silly prices too and massings being meaningless as trained losses are such a small % of armysize/resource production, there have been many possible fixes suggested such as

1) Lower raid returns

2) Scrap perg, was always a bad idea

3) Attack army size limits to prevent big accounts bullying smaller ones and prevent sniper/vulture multi's hitting big real players

4) Updated weapon costs

5) Trade brokers limited to reasonable trades, No more gifts or private purchases of Mills of UU or Trills of Naq for 1 UU, say set ranges of 1 Mill UU can only be traded for between 5-700 Bill Naq or 2-4K ATs

6) Make the Co/Officer % fairer to encourage big players to take on small new players as officers

7) Auto vacation mode for accounts inactive over 1 month and auto delete after 6 months vacation

8 ) SS only lasting 1 year so you have to repurchase or ascend on a regular basis to support the game

9) Better starting points for new accounts

10) Scrap the need for ascended accounts, logging in to ascended is a chore not a game of choice

11) Reasons for maintaining stats, linking def to resource production, giving new uses for G&R points, etc so people want to build stuff

12) Mineslaves and UU escaping when def is to low to keep them enslaved

13) Force players to use a variety of war settings if they want to attack each other so clearly defined winning conditions are given

There are dozens of good suggestion like this in the 'game suggestions' section but most get shot down by raider/traders who only play for profit and spend a % of that profit on SS, by doing so getting more influence with admin than real players

Theres also the fact that the TV shows of SGW and Atlantis have ended all round the world so new players now only join up by word of mouth not from being fans of the show.

Personally if I found this game today I would not join it and I continue to play for the people I've met and in the hope of future updates, not for the current state of play.

*puts all the role playing aside..*

It is sad Magni...very sad, I once did really enjoy this game. Those days are gone..I dont know whether I am coming or going these days I have fought a few wars, and I just think whats the point? You just get accounts a quarter your size in some cases holding their own...its preposterous because you just cant damage them enough to make them back down. I build a 2T defence..I dont think anyone above 20mill army size could not get that if they really wanted to now.

MS's are the domination in war..the funny thing is.. so many people are very happy to fight with their ms..and well.. a MS can be completely levelled, and then rebuilt. If they get that much fun from having their ms's in that position..why is it such a length to have entire accounts at that level?

Its all just so silly. I look at games and I see...the most popular games are the ones that are unfair on the player, the ones that create a challenge... its just most do not think, at all about the game only themselves.

I know, that if uu were killable I would be deaded, I have enough friends and enemies to choke a donkey, as I am sure you do, yet I would gladly see my 200 odd mill uu gone to be able to have some fun ingame again.

People claim just simple massing is fun, but its not. Its horribly repetitive and is completely skill less. No current player has any right to say they are a war master or a good player at all...if anyone out there thinks that their MS, or their farming ability or their ME or even their last mass is a great show of their gaming prowess, then they are a fool. An utter fool...

@FS danke.. :wink:
