Re: Removing the "buddy" system.
I'm going to stick my nose in here, because I'm none too convinced that this topic came up by pure coincidence Nuto. Now, the amazing powers of logic and basic psychology suggest that there's an element of sour grapes here. I am the most recently appointed moderator, infact, on-trial moderator, so forgive my over-egotistical mindframe if I'm completely nuts here, but you raised this whole thing because Buck put forward his friend (YES FOLKS, HIS FRIEND, ME - SURPRISE!) to try out being a General section Mod. You've had issue with Buck, and even myself (and vice-versa I'll admit for ages), so it's no great surprise at all that you bring this up at all just to be awkward. I'd just rather you would speak to me in person, or even Buck for that matter as opposed to posting a thread about it.

Even if you feel it was brought up for the wrong reasons, or has been raised purely out of spite, I still think the issue of how moderators are selected is one which the community has a right to discuss and opine about.

Every right, and of course, the reason why the topic remains open for discussion so long as long as I am not being implicated as someone who has done wrong by being appointed as a moderator by someone who deemed me a suitable candidate for the job.

there may soon be the possibility of applying for modship... but some things have to be worked out first...

Think outside the square lou. This is about the poor system in place to let buddies in to be mods when there are players better suited for the job.
I have no sour grapes as I quit the mods many moons again, and it was the best thing I have done.

It's not a matter of luck; it's just a matter of time.

Re: Removing the "buddy" system.
You're right, Nuto.
Excuse me while I invite some DDE/DXM/DOC High Council members to become mods.
----
Bottom line, the forum is being ran the way the current administration wants it to be ran. IF you have a problem, take this up with Pookie in private (read: send him a PM or talk on MSN.) Don't bring up these discussions in public as all you're doing is stirring the pot and all that does it bring more problems.
Thanks,
You have my MSN.

Re: Removing the "buddy" system.
I have already received PM's from pookie.
If he didn't want this thread open, he would have closed it as he has read and responded to me about it.
This forum is for the players, and without those players you would have nothing to moderate at all, and that means no pretty colours in your forum username.
We are all entitled to an opinion about this. You're also allowed to stand back and watch people talk about something you don't agree with.

Re: Removing the "buddy" system.
I'd also like to say that shortly after his appointment, Diamond Dust has confronted me about calling someone a n00b, like it is some kind of horrible insult. And then when I tried to explain to him why it isn't an insult but just me calling someone "new to the game", he says I'm trying to get smart with him and gives me a warning. lol.

Re: Removing the "buddy" system.
@zodiac
the word you was looking for was "newbie" not "n00b". n00b is an insult, not a very strong insult in my book but its still an insult.
@ the rest of you
i have very rarely agreed with nuto in the past but she does have a very good point here and i agree with her 100%.
this does need to be debated in public and it should be the "public" that votes in who should be a mod on "our" forum!

I PM'd you explaining that if you were not going to offer any justification in your choice of words, it would be seen as a personal insult. And a rather lame and groundless one at that. You failed to edit your post and/or come back to me via PM to explain. You had sufficient time in which to respond positively, and didn't. The topic was later locked, and I politely warned you that rules are rules.

Yeah, coz I can see how the markets look so much better now...
This thread isn't about me, its about the lack of mod processing.
Thanks, glad to see you like my work

Re: Removing the "buddy" system.
Your eagerness to sweep things under the rug and put a zealous stop to any sort of discussion is a little worrying, DaDigi. Please do us a favour and never become A) an admin, B) a policeman, C) a high ranking government official of any sort.
It's a credit to this forum, and it's staff, that we have moderators like Agapooka, FreeSpirit and Buck who are willing to talk problems through with disgruntled users and discuss ways in which to improve the atmosphere, but at the opposite end of the spectrum we have moderators who delight in handing out warnings and quashing 'ney sayers' with dystopian zeal.
The selection of moderators is an issue which affects the entire forum, and as such I think the entire forum has a right to debate and discuss it. As Nuto said, it's the users who make this place at the end of the day.

DaDigi is just posting the facts he knows and there is nothing wrong with that. The Mods are choosen by theadmins and some ex-admins for their skills and their time and experience as a mod.Mordack wrote:It's a credit to this forum, and it's staff, that we have moderators like Agapooka, FreeSpirit and Buck who are willing to talk problems through with disgruntled users and discuss ways in which to improve the atmosphere, but at the opposite end of the spectrum we have moderators who delight in handing out warnings and quashing 'ney sayers' with dystopian zeal.
Thanks for the credit it means a lot. Yes there are mods here who talk trough things but they do that on own free will. Many mods here do this btw and sometimes it has to happen to make both the mod and the community feel better.Mordack wrote:The selection of moderators is an issue which affects the entire forum, and as such I think the entire forum has a right to debate and discuss it. Yes it does affect the major community but also as we know the community are humans just like us they tend to make the same mistakes just like us. We are looking for new mods and we are discussing it. There will be more to follow about that soon.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, FreeSpirit, in doing so you've reaffirmed what I said about you in my earlier post. It's good to know that the mod team is giving some thought to this issue. Thanks again.
